Many wait times in Disney World can be predictable, but there are some days where certain rides surprise us.
Yesterday was one of those days! Although we’ve been seeing a lot of temporary closures lately, there were less on Friday — but some of the wait times went up.
Even though this is considered a slow season in Disney World, you still might want to use Disney’s skip-the-line service, Genie+ to skip the longest lines. Rise of the Resistance consistently has the longest wait time in Disney’s Hollywood Studios (and often all of Disney World), but yesterday, an unexpected ride passed it and had a 3.5 hour wait! Using Genie+ will help you skip some of these longer lines — including the 3.5 hour wait for Rock n’ Roller Coaster at Hollywood Studios!
There are other factors to consider as well if you want to avoid the long lines. If you’re a morning person, consider rope dropping the parks (be at the park before opening time so you can get a head start on your day).
Another thing you can take advantage of bright and early is Early Theme Park Entry. This is a perk offered to Disney World Hotel guests (and guests at other select hotels). With this perk, you can get into any park of your choice (provided you have a Park Pass for it) 30 minutes early on ANY day. That could help you squeeze in a ride before the rest of the crowds arrive!

If you’re more of a night owl, consider staying at a Deluxe Disney World Hotel or Deluxe Villa (or select other participating hotels) to take advantage of Extended Evening Hours. With this perk, qualifying guests can stay in the parks for a few hours after the park closes to regular guests.
This is only offered in certain parks on select nights. But any chance to get time in the parks with fewer crowds is a big bonus. Plus, on nights when this is offered in EPCOT, Extended Evening Hours guests get an extra chance to sign up for the Virtual Queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind!
Looking for more ways to maximize your time in the parks? Here are a few other tips:
- Look into purchasing Genie+ — this paid service can help you skip the lines at tons of rides
- Consider buying Individual Attraction Selection (pay-per-ride offerings) — these can be particularly helpful to cut down your wait at popular rides (like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance)
- See if a single rider line could work out for you (whether it’ll actually cut down on your wait can depend!)
- Don’t forget to check those wait times in the My Disney Experience app BEFORE walking across the park to the ride you hope to get on
- Remember that the FREE Genie service in the My Disney Experience app can give you predicted wait times, helping you to better plan for when the ride might be emptier
- We’ve seen wait times go DOWN later in the afternoons/evenings, so sticking around into the night or park hopping to a place with lower waits might help cut some waiting out of your day
There are a lot of tips that can help you skip some long wait times, but the most important one is probably to be flexible! Rides can go down, wait times can be longer than expected, and other things can throw a wrench in your plans. If you build in some flexibility to your plans, you’ll be able to adjust and still have a good time.

Using Genie+ is what causes these exaggerated wait times. I really wish people would understand that Disney is causing the problem and asking you to pay for it.
