We’ve been following along with all the updates regarding Disney’s new island destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point, which has had an opening timeline of Summer 2024 since the beginning of this year. Let’s dive into some of the fun facts and activities we can expect from this new exclusive destination.

Disney just shared a ton of new details about Lookout Cay and we’re getting more and more excited about visiting this new island destination for the very first time!

Introduction

Lookout Cay gives Disney Cruise Line passengers another destination to celebrate Bahamian culture, in addition to Castaway Cay. Imagineers wanted to celebrate deep traditions and small communities, and Eleuthra embraces and harnesses the culture to bring other people an introduction to Junkanoo — a lively cultural celebration

Disney worked with organizations and agencies in and around Eleuthra like the National Junaknoo committee to immerse guests in Bahamian culture. Junkanoo is “symbolic of who the Bahamas are as a people, celebrates with two parades like Mardi Gras or Carnival with goat skin drums and costumes and masks.”

Junkanoo Celebration

You’ll be able to experience the Goombay Cultural Center and learn from artists about local culture and tradition. At the Junkanoo celebration, you’ll hear local music, see costumes, and do crafts.

Disney shared a peek at the arrival point, Mabrika Cove. Disney explained “Mabrika” means “welcome” in Taino, the language of the Lucayans, who are considered the indigenous people of The Bahamas. The language isn’t commonly used these days, but the Taino word “Mabrika” endured.

Disney also hinted that there will be family entertainment at Triton’s Trumpet Stage. According to Disney, the gazebo’s name is inspired by the large, spiraled seashells commonly called “Triton’s Trumpet.” What a coincidence!

Characters

We’ve had a sneak peek at all the characters coming to Lookout Cay, but now we know a bit more about the inspiration behind their costumes!

©Disney

Mickey and Minnie’s looks will be part of a collection of colorful works of art by local creators designed by Theodore Eylett, who will also be designing special outfits for Donald and Daisy Duck, Goofy, Pluto, and Chip ‘n’ Dale. This is the first time in history that one designer has dressed all eight of these characters together!

Minnie’s outfit has raffia polka dots on her skirt and a pineapple purse, which is a very important fruit to Eleuthera. Mickey has Bahamian conch art on his shorts, and all the characters have a bit of straw infused as well. Daisy has a straw hat and “Bahama mama” puff sleeves, while Donald opens his sailor vest cause he’s on vacation.

Chip ‘n’ Dale will have Junkanoo-infused sunrays and a stray backpack, and Goofy is Theodore’s favorite with his oversized Junkanoo vest and crepe paper fringed in different ways. Pluto has conch shells and motifs as well as Bahama waves on his collar.

Entertainment & Recreation

The Fun in the Sun Beach Bash will feature bangers like “Eye to Eye” from The Goofy Movie and the Rescue Rangers theme, with Junkanoo beats added to them. It’s a beach bash, play area, and dance party with characters.

The architecture is inspired by shells you can find all around the island and is also about bringing people together — so you’ll find large rooms with beautiful displays and lots of conchs and palms on a huge scale. There will be beautifully plotted headdresses and murals on several walls as photo ops throughout each building.
