A big change is coming to Disney World on May 3rd, and with that, the Lightning Lane Multi Pass is also changing! It has been a long time coming, but Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom is finally reopening.

The wildest ride in the wilderness has been closed since January 6th, 2025. That’s right, it has been over a year since we boarded a runaway train at Big Thunder Mining Company and adventured through the mountain. Well, that all changes on May 3rd, 2026, when Big Thunder Mountain Railroad officially reopens.
With Big Thunder Mountain Railroad reopening, a big change is also coming to Lightning Lane Multi Pass. When the ride reopens, it will be available as a Lightning Lane Multi Pass selection. It will be part of the Tier 1 options, along with Jungle Cruise, Peter Pan’s Flight, Space Mountain, and Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.

With Lightning Lane Multi Pass, you can choose up to 3 Multi Pass experiences at a time. However, with your initial selections, you can only choose up to one experience from the Tier 1 options and two options (or all three) from the Tier 2 attractions.

If Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is a must-ride for you, prioritize trying to grab it as your tier 1 selection when making your advance selections. Guests staying at eligible resort hotels can book Lightning Lane passes starting 7 days before the first day of their stay. All other guests can purchase and make their Lightning Lane selection up to 3 days in advance.

If you aren’t able to snag a reservation for Big Thunder Mountain Railroad during your initial selections, you can always keep checking! You can modify your selections even after you make them, so you can be on the lookout for additional availability. Plus, once you redeem a Lightning Lane Multi Pass selection or the arrival window has passed, you can select another Lightning Lane Multi Pass experience. After you have used your first Lightning Lane (or the window has passed), you also don’t need to worry about the tiers anymore, so you can hold more than one tier 1 reservation.

Of course, if you really want to ride and can’t seem to snag a Lightning Lane Multi Pass reservation, you can also use the standby line to wait for the ride. It will take longer than using a Lightning Lane, but at least you will be able to take a ride on the wildest ride in the wilderness! Currently, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad isn’t listed as an option for Early Entry, but we will let you know if that changes!

We are in the parks every single day, so we can always make sure you have the most up-to-date information! Stay tuned to AllEars for all your Disney news, plus full coverage of the reopening of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad!
