TRON Lightcycle Run — Tomorrowland in Magic Kingdom

TRON Lightcycle Run is the highest-rated attraction at Shanghai Disneyland, and it was announced at the 2017 D23 Expo that this attraction would be coming to the Magic Kingdom as part of Disney World’s 50th Anniversary celebrations. TRON Lightcycle Run is inspired by the 1982 movie TRON.

TRON is a coaster-style attraction and riders will board a train made up of two-wheeled Lightcycles. The lighting in the canopy will differ depending on the time of day.

The construction of the ride was delayed due to the closures related to the COVID-19 pandemic, and as a result, the opening was delayed until Spring 2023.

We can’t wait for TRON to take off!

TRON is located in an entirely new area next to the Space Mountain and Tomorrowland Speedway attractions in Magic Kingdom’s Tomorrowland.

Tron Coaster Construction

We’ve observed the construction of TRON from the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, and we’ve seen progress in the canopy, the ride tracks, groundwork, and more. We’ve also seen ride testing take place.

This coaster’s story picks up after TRON: Legacy, when Kevin’s son, Sam Flynn, opens a “second gateway into a digital realm called the Grid” — the first gateway being the one in Shanghai Disneyland.

In this coaster, guests will board a two-wheeled Lightcycle on a train that represents Team Blue. The goal is to race against the Grid’s Programs, Team Orange to get through the eight Energy Gates first.

TRON Lightcycle / Run does not currently feature a standby line when it opens — instead, there will be a Virtual Queue. You’ll also be able to ride this attraction by buying an Individual Lightning Lane via Genie+.

Vehicle testing

Let’s go over the virtual queue basics:

  1. You’ll need to use the My Disney Experience app to try to join the virtual queue
  2. A standby queue will NOT be available
  3. You can enter the virtual queue only ONCE per day during regular park hours
  4. Boarding groups are limited, are not guaranteed, and are subject to availability
  5. NOT all boarding groups may be called to return depending on availability
  6. You will need a valid park ticket for Magic Kingdom
  7. You will also need a valid Park Pass reservation for Magic Kingdom

Guests can access the TRON Virtual Queues at 7AM and 1PM.
