It’s Inevitable. You’re Going to Wait HOURS for This Disney World Ride Unless You Do These 3 Things

Who would have thought that a little Toy Story-themed coaster would soon reign as the most popular ride in ALL of Disney World?

The title of highest wait time has been passed around between Rise of the​ Resistance and Flight of Passage forever, but in recent years, Slinky Dog Dash has become a top contender. So how can you avoid the multi-hour waits that become inevitable during the busy holiday season? We’re here with tips!

There are three main ways that you can skip the long lines at Slinky Dog Dash…and let’s face it, it’s not the most fun line to wait in! Starting off with the cheapest option — rope drop! Head to the park before it opens and make a beeline for Toy Story Land first thing for a quicker wait.

There is one caveat though — this trick mostly works for those who have Early Theme Park Entry, AKA visitors staying at a Disney World hotel. That 30-minute head start makes a huge difference because the coaster was already posting a 70-minute wait time by the time the park opened to everyone!

Looking for another option? You can use the Lightning Lane by purchasing either Lightning Lane Multi Pass or Lightning Lane Premier Pass for Hollywood Studios. 

Lightning Lane Multi Pass is the cheapest of the two and allows you to book three Lightning Lane choices in advance. Hotel guests can purchase the service and book Slinky Dog Dash seven days ahead of time and all other guests can snag it three days before.

Then there’s Lightning Lane Premier Pass, which does NOT make you book Lightning Lane reservations. You just show up with the barcode to scan and walk right in any time you want (but only once per ride). This perk will cost you though, with prices in the $269-$349 range for this park.

Another option is to prioritize Slinky Dog Dash during after hours events! For example, Jollywood Nights is happening on select nights throughout November and December, and if you were already planning on going, it may be your key to a lower wait time!

After Hours events are also returning to Hollywood Studios in 2025 — learn more about that here! Because the events have a limited capacity, the wait times tend to be lower.
