Shark ChillPill Fan

If you have a Disney World vacation planned for the summer, you’re probably asking yourself how you’re going to stay cool in that hot Florida heat. Especially while you’re walking around and waiting in lines all day long. Well, this essential item could be the way to go, but we gotta test it out!

Take a look at the Shark ChillPill Fan! What is it? It’s a 3-in-1 personal cooling system. We were very excited to unbox this product because of all of the features it has. We felt like kids in a candy store, exploring everything that came in the box. There are two mechanisms you need to use in order to turn it on: a slide switch, which is sort of the main power, and then you press on the dial at the end of one of the tubular pieces to activate the device.

Let’s open it up!

The basic feature on this is called the high-speed fan, and it claims to be cool at up to 25 ft./s. However, our experience was that it was weaker than that of other fans. We tested it at its highest setting of 10. We kept using it, wanting to believe that it was magical, but we have to be honest — it just did not bring the power as a fan.

How is this as a fan?

The next step was the dry touch mist, which claims to have ultra-fine droplets for indoors and outdoors. It comes with a cumbersome wick which you have to apply and switch out yourself, but don’t worry about that at the start, as it comes pre-loaded for your first use. You just have to fill the vessel up with water and replace the wick every 30 days. It comes loaded with one and three extras on the side, which means you will need to purchase new wicks eventually.

Let’s try the mist!

Having all of this falderal and diddle-dee over something they call dry touch mist — which is an oxymoron — and then to put it up to our face and feel basically nothing, feels like the ultimate social media dupe. This gives you a lot to do with your time and produces very little relief.

Well…this isn’t what we expected

Then came the InstaChill cooling plate, which claims to cool on contact to lower skin temp by up to 16°F. Well, guess what, this thing rules the school. This rocked our world! It’s not quite freezing cold, but it is shockingly cold.

Now THAT feels good!

At times when people start dropping like flies around Walt Disney World because they’re fainting from heat exhaustion, they usually tell you to run and get a bottle of water and pour it on them. Any kind of very cool surface that you can press on your forehead or the back of your neck will save a person from falling ill due to the heat, and this is something you can carry with you that will produce that effect instantly.

We’re cooling down with the plate!

In this heat, it only took a couple of seconds to get cold, but even on the lower of the two settings, once it cooled down, it felt absolutely incredible. While we were using this, the battery had not moved from full for a while, so it appears to be very long-lasting. One thing we will say is that it does smell like plastic when it’s close to your face. So it might not be the best thing for everyday use. However, the emergency cooling effect that it has is remarkable and worth it.

We can get behind certain features!

Overall, we think they packed an ambitious amount of ideas into this product. Two of them fell short for us, and one of them sort of blew my mind.
