Why You Shouldn’t Bother Rope Dropping at Magic Kingdom Right Now

It’s time for another look at what the wait times were like recently in Disney World! Magic Kingdom was busy. Crowds started early with the Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh at 45 minutes, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train at 55 minutes, and TRON Lightcycle Run at 75 minutes, by park open at 9 AM.

Disney offers Early Theme Park Entry for hotel guests, so they’ll get in the parks a half hour before the official park opening. It’s an awesome perk for early risers and a large part of why people stay at Disney World’s resorts. But if you’re a local or staying off property, we don’t think rope dropping Magic Kingdom is worth it right now.

It used to be that rope dropping was an easy way to get on all the popular rides with little to no wait, but now that Early Entry is offered every day, it can get wild. If you still want to ride all 20 rides at Magic Kingdom, we recommend getting Lightning Lane, Disney’s paid skip-the-line service. You’ll be able to bypass the standby line for a shorter wait time!

Animal Kingdom stayed crowded like earlier this week, with closing DINOSAUR and Avatar Flight of Passage being tied for the longest line throughout the day. Crowds are rushing to ride DINOSAUR one last time, so the park will likely remain crowded until DinoLand, USA’s closure on February 2nd.
