I Can Honestly Say This Is the WORST Ride to Rope Drop in Magic Kingdom

We know firsthand how stressful rope drop can be in Disney World, especially because it changes practically ALL the time.

This is especially true for Magic Kingdom right now. Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin just recently opened after refurbishment, as did Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, and that’s affected what the best rope drop strategy is. But hear us now when we say this — if you want to avoid a 70% chance of disappointment, there’s one ride we recommend AVOIDING when rope dropping in this park.

Let’s take a look at wait times from Sunday, May 10th.

Magic Kingdom

TRON Lightcycle / Run ended the day with the highest wait of 95 minutes, but that’s largely due to the fact that it closed two different times throughout the day! Space Mountain also had a rough day, closing three separate times, but LO AND BEHOLD, as we expect to happen almost every day of the week, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was closed the first hour of the day. It didn’t last long, which is great, but if this is the ride you’re planning on rope dropping, it’s too unpredictable, and we suggest making your current Plan B your Plan A.

Epcot

It seems all the rides in Magic Kingdom and EPCOT connected and decided to have 95 minute waits be the top wait time of the day, because Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind AND Test Track both tied! We are starting to get concerned about Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, though. The ride has been having issues for the past few days, and yesterday, it closed for three hours straight.

However, if you’re planning to rope drop a ride in this park, let it NEVER be Kali River Rapids for one reason and one reason only — it doesn’t open with the park!

The highest wait of the day went to Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at 90 minutes because, well, it decided to break down again for a good portion of the day. Right before hitting 90, it was only at 35 minutes, which just goes to show — if you’re in line for the ride and it suddenly doubles in wait time, or you hear an announcement that half of the ride is down, just come back later (unless you’re close to the front)!
