Hacks and tips are the key to a successful Disney World vacation. That’s why we’re always sharing our favorites with you!​
One of our favorite tips to avoid long wait times in the parks is to hop in line at the end of the evening. Wait times usually tend to go down so if you missed a short wait at rope drop or earlier in the day, that’s usually your best bet. HOWEVER, when looking at recent wait time trends we noticed there are times when this hack does NOT work — and we’re sharing that info with you so you can keep it in mind on your next visit!
When looking at the wait times from Tuesday, July 9th, we noticed that several rides were at a 60-minute wait or longer in the last hour of park time. In Magic Kingdom, that included Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at 75 minutes and Seven Dwarfs Mine Train and Space Mountain at 60 minutes. In EPCOT, Remy’s Ratatouille posted an 80-minute wait at the end of the day.
Animal Kingdom wait times were fairly tame, however, Disney’s Hollywood Studios had long lines at night. This included Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster (95 minutes — the highest time for it all day), Toy Story Mania (80 minutes), Slinky Dog Dash (60 minutes), and Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway (60 minutes). Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster recently reopened from a lengthy refurb, so we’ve seen wait times skyrocket here.
On the other hand, we noticed some of these wait times dipped in the afternoon. It’s HOT in Florida right now which means many people may be taking a break in their hotel rooms or at the pool. If you can tough it out through the afternoon, it may pay off when it comes to waiting in line.
We will say that wait times can still drop in that last hour of park time, so keep an eye on them in the My Disney Experience app. As long as you are in line before the park’s closing time, you should be able to ride!
Wait times fluctuate every day, but keep in mind that the end-of-the-night trick may not work at every ride. Want to guarantee a ride?
