Is Disneyland in the Evacuation Zone for Garden Grove Chemical Emergency?

Residents and businesses in and near Garden Grove, California, have been evacuated after a vapor was released from a tank containing an industrial chemical at the GKN Aerospace plant.

While the initial threat of the tank causing a chemical explosion has been minimized, evacuation orders are still in place for the area. Is Disneyland in the evacuation zone?

Disneyland Resort is about five miles away from the evacuation zone and is currently open and operating with normal hours.

On Disneyland’s website, they have a statement saying, “At this time, there is no impact to Disneyland Resort due to this situation, and the resort remains open to guests. We are actively monitoring the situation and taking guidance from local authorities.”

“The Disneyland Resort is approximately five miles from the incident and is not in the identified evacuation zone. Updated information can be found by following the Orange County Fire Authority on social media.”

According to the Orange County Register, California’s definition of an evacuation order means there is an “immediate threat to life” and that it is “a lawful order to leave now.” Any area under an evacuation order is closed to the public.

Currently, Disneyland is not planning on closing but is working with local authorities to make sure the park is still safe for guests and Cast Members. The evacuation area extends slightly south of the 22 Freeway, but the highway remains open.

If you currently have a trip to Disneyland, it’s a good idea to have a backup plan in case the area needs to be evacuated. While it might not happen, having a backup plan means your trip can continue safely.
