It’s time for another look at what the wait times were like in Disney World!
Rope drop is one of the most useful tips we can recommend to get on popular Disney World rides without waiting ​hours, which is why we talk about it all the time. This requires getting to the parks before they open, lining up outside, and being one of the first guests in the park that day! There’s just one problem for visitors who are NOT staying at a Disney World hotel — Early Theme Park Entry.

Early Theme Park Entry is a hotel perk that allows people staying at Disney World hotels (and some hotels that have partnered with Disney) to enter the theme parks 30 minutes before they open. It’s an awesome perk, but if you don’t have access to it, it could mess up your rope drop plans.
Take Slinky Dog Dash, for example. This is a ride many parkgoers run to first because it is notorious for its wait times. But by park opening time on Thursday, May 29th, the Toy Story-themed coaster already posted a 120-minute wait. Yikes!
Sometimes this is inflated due to the expected influx of crowds, but it’s a busy week, so that could be accurate. While we don’t always see this in the triple digits first thing in the morning, this line tends to get long early because of its popularity.
If you don’t have Early Theme Park Entry, we actually recommend heading to a different ride! Sunset Boulevard tends to be a good pick with Tower of Terror and Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster in close proximity. You can either book a Lightning Lane or take a chance hopping in line towards the end of the night when wait times tend to dip. We say “take a chance” because it’s possible the ride might be closed…which is exactly what happened on May 29th.
