Is It Safe To Go to Disneyland Right Now?

The conflict between protesters and government forces intensified in Los Angeles over the weekend, as at least 2,000 National Guard troops arrived to counter demonstrations, Newsweek has reported.

The protests have spread throughout Los Angeles County, but have mostly been concentrated in downtown LA. With Disneyland being part of the greater Los Angeles area, many people are wondering if it’s safe to visit the parks right now.

As protestors and law enforcement continue to clash over Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE) operations, Disneyland Resort remains open and operational. While no one can predict if these conflicts may or may not continue to escalate, you may want to be aware if you’ve got a Disneyland trip planned right now.

Protests are currently going on throughout the country, but Los Angeles County has seen more intensification following the deployment of the National Guard by President Trump, despite objections from city and state officials. Disneyland is considered part of the greater LA area, but it is not located within LA County — it’s in Anaheim, which is located in Orange County.

The map below shows areas in LA where the National Guard has had a presence since being deployed, which is primarily concentrated in the downtown LA area. A majority of the conflict has been taking place near the LAPD Metropolitan Detention Center, which is 26.3 miles away from Disneyland in Anaheim.

A National Guard presence has also been seen in Compton, and while closer to Disneyland than downtown LA, it is still 20.6 miles away.

Sections of the 101 freeway have been blocked by law enforcement and protestors, which could impact travel to Disneyland if that’s a route you typically take. If possible, find another route to the parks.

Of course, this is a developing situation that could change at any moment, so continue to watch local news for the most up-to-date information if you’re planning on going to Disneyland while these protests are still going on.

Updated June 10th

The National Guard is now stationed at the Santa Ana Federal Building, about 7 miles away from Disneyland Resort. The National Guard is blocking off portions of the roadways as protests move closer into Santa Ana, California.

At the end of the day, only you can decide what you feel comfortable with, but this information should give you a better idea of whether or not it’s “safe” to go to Disneyland right now.

We’ll be on the lookout for additional updates that could potentially impact a visit to Disneyland. In the meantime, make sure you stay tuned to AllEars for the latest Disney news.

  1. We just left Disneyland after four days at the park never had seen anything to alarm me . Had great stay and park personal was the most professional.

  2. The City of Los Angeles has declared a curfew from 8 PM to 6 AM for specific areas due to ongoing protests. The curfew applies to the area bounded by I-110 to the West/I-5, East/I-10 to the South/I-5, and I-110 to the North. Traveling to and from work, seeking or giving emergency care, and emergency responders are exempt from the curfew.

  3. We are planning a DL visit from out of state at the end of next week. Probably like many visiting DL from out of the area, we are also planning to visit Universal Studios while we are there. I suspect a good number of your readers would appreciate seeing this reporting expanded to include the situation in that area, as well as the route between the two.

  4. Is this rage bait? It’s safe to go to downtown LA right now. Why wouldn’t it be safe to go somewhere 30 miles away? Quit believing fear mongering propaganda machines. LA is not on fire

  5. First of all, the conflict has been with police and bad acting opportunists taking advantage of peaceful protests. The actual protests have been peaceful and without incident, as LA residents exercise our first amendment rights and support our community.

Also, LA city is over 500 square miles. The incidents involving the opportunistic bad actors have been in only a couple small areas.

To answer the question, Disneyland is in Orange County and is several miles away from the minor incidents that have occurred.

Please do not blow this out of proportion. People around the country have the impression that this is some major incident – it is not. The military has been sent in for
    no reason.

  6. We went to Disneyland years ago during the LA riots and didn’t know they were going on till we watched TV that night. Disney employees made sure we all had a great time inside the park. We did notice plain-clothed, either police or FBI, standing at corners or other places watching everything. Nothing untoward happened. Just lots of fun and memories. Thank you so much Disney!!

  7. I’m at Disneyland now. There is nothing going on anywhere around here. If it weren’t for the news I wouldn’t even know there were protests
