Why Rope Drop Was WEIRD at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Yesterday

Rope drop is one of the most chaotic times of day in Disney World…but trust us, it’s worth it!​

Rope drop refers to getting up early and lining up before the park opens so that you are one of the first people to enter the park that day. It’s a super handy tip if you want to ride some of the most popular rides without the long wait times. Since Early Theme Park Entry allows Disney World hotel guests in 30 minutes before park opening, the lines can already form by the official rope drop time. However, something weird happened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and we’re sharing it with you!

When taking a look at the wait times from February 11th, 2025, we noticed that rope drop wait times were significantly lower at Hollywood Studios! Even though it’s home to Slinky Dog Dash and Rise of the Resistance (arguably the most popular rides in all of Disney World), the first wait time reported was 35 minutes for each. This quickly grew, but we’re used to seeing a higher number first thing in the morning!

For example, when Magic Kingdom opened, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train was already at 55 minutes and TRON Lightcycle / Run was at 60 minutes. In EPCOT, Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure already hit 55 minutes. Flight of Passage in Disney’s Animal Kingdom had the highest wait time at park opening with a 75-minute posted wait time!

This isn’t always the case so we wouldn’t bank on this to be your experience. However, we’d still recommend rope dropping either of those Hollywood Studios attractions as the wait times will be longer throughout the day. If you don’t make rope drop, try waiting until the end of the night for a shorter line!
