Why You Can’t Always Count on Spaceship Earth in EPCOT

We know you’ve heard it from us a lot, but things can go wrong in Disney World.

There are just so many factors that are out of your control. Florida weather is notoriously finicky, so you can’t guarantee beautiful sunny not-too-hot days at the parks. You also can’t control Disney World’s refurbishment schedule. Plus rides go down — a lot for a variety of reasons. Well, one ride had a really bad day yesterday, and yes, we’re talking about you, Spaceship Earth.​

So Spaceship Earth is a MUST on a lot of folks’ lists when they visit EPCOT. It’s a classic EPCOT attraction and has been a part of the park since it opened in 1982. Although the ride has been updated a few times, it still gives everyone the nostalgic feels.

However, if you had planned to ride Spaceship Earth on January 18th, you might have discovered that it was closed — a lot. We noticed that the ride was closed for three hours in the morning, and then later in the afternoon, it closed again at 2PM, reopened, and then closed again from 5-6PM.

These things do happen, and although it might be a disappointment not to ride this classic attraction, at least there are plenty of other things to do in EPCOT to keep you busy. If it’s a relaxing educational ride you’re looking for, check out Living with the Land instead.
