The One Thing That Could DRASTICALLY Change Your Day in Disney World

Even if you’ve considered and carefully analyzed every part of your Disney World vacation, there are some things you can’t plan for.

Things like unpredictable weather (and this happens a lot in Florida), shocking crowds, and — most importantly — unexpected ride closures can throw your plan completely off track. Today we’re focusing on temporary ride closures specifically because those happen more often than you might think in Disney World and they can REALLY impact your day.

Temporary ride closures usually happen due to a few things. First, bad weather can sometimes close outdoor rides depending usually on the closeness of lightning in the area. However, sometimes ride malfunctions or other technical issues can temporarily close rides, too. These kinds of closures can happen multiple times throughout the day.

To give you an example, throughout the day on May 9th, over 10 rides were temporarily closed at one point or another in Disney World. Ride closures can throw off your plans by just forcing you to pivot to another ride in place of the one you may have originally wanted to go on.

But it’s about more than that. When a big ride closes, other rides might get higher wait times because everyone is forced to head elsewhere.

Plus, when more popular rides temporarily close and later reopen, they could have potentially long waits after reopening. This was the case on May 9th with Rise of the Resistance in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which was closed during the morning, but then had multi-hour wait times once it reopened, including a wait time of 225 minutes (that’s over three-and-a-half hours).

So when these ride closures happen, you’ll need to have a plan B in place to tackle other rides. If a ride that’s a priority for you happens to close, you’ll want to keep a close eye on the My Disney Experience app to see when it reopens because the sooner you catch it reopening, the less time you may have to spend waiting in line (if you can make it there before too many other folks have realized it’s available again).
