We expect popular rides at Disney World to have long waits. If it’s a great ride, everyone is going to want to ride it, causing wait times to skyrocket.
This typically happens for rides like Seven Dwarfs Mine Trains, Slinky Dog Dash, Rise of the Resistance, and others. However, when one ride got a standby line instead of a virtual queue the other week, the wait times weren’t doing what we expected based on its popularity. We were quite confused for a while, but now it appears things are starting to make more sense!
TRON Lightcycle / Run switched from having a virtual queue to a standby queue on September 9th. On the day that it switched over and the several days that followed, the line got REALLY long right when the park opened because everyone ran to rope drop it, but by mid-morning to early afternoon, the wait dipped way down. We even saw wait times of only 30 minutes for this popular roller coaster!
We were SHOCKED by the low wait times for this ride! Some days it would stay low or barely get up over an hour wait in the middle of the afternoon. This was clearly a ride that people rope dropped and then didn’t go to later in the day.
However, we’re now starting to see things level out a bit. On September 16th, TRON was still its busiest at the beginning of the day with a 90 minute wait first thing in the morning, but it stayed up pretty high all day. The lowest the wait dropped was down to 70 minutes with most of the day between 75 and 85 minutes.
These were the wait times we were expecting to see for the standby line at this ride! It is probably still a good idea to watch the line closely throughout the day as you might be able to jump in line at a low dip on certain days. Another option would be to purchase a Lightning Lane Single Pass for this ride.
