REVIEW: Why Don’t More People Talk About This Disney World Hotel Restaurant?

While a Disney World vacation is full of fun and magical memories, it also requires quite a bit of energy. You will likely be covering more miles than normal and spending more time being active than you might on a normal day. That means that you also need to fuel your body well!

EPCOT

One of our favorite ways to ensure our bodies are fueled is at one of Disney World’s buffets. There are many buffet options at Disney World, and we love them because they are all-you-can-eat and offer many different options. Today, we are checking out Cape May Cafe at Disney’s Beach Club Resort, and you all are coming along with us. Let’s go!

Background

Cape May Cafe is located inside Disney’s Beach Club Resort. It is right off the main lobby—just follow the yummy scents wafting from the restaurant! The restaurant serves two meals a day, but the two meals offer very different experiences.

For breakfast, you can dine at Minnie’s Beach Bash Breakfast. This meal includes an all-you-can-eat buffet, plus the chance to meet Minnie Mouse and friends. However, the characters will only appear at breakfast, so plan accordingly!

Goofy at Cape May Cafe

You will also enjoy an all-you-can-eat buffet for dinner, but there won’t be any characters to see. The dinner buffet will feature flavors from the New England coast, which means lots of delicious seafood! However, even if seafood isn’t your thing, you will still find lots of options out on the buffet.

Here’s what you need to know about dining at this restaurant.

Atmosphere

Cape May Cafe is themed to the New England coast, and you will feel that theming throughout the restaurant. There are lots of pops of colors, alongside wood accents. The ambiance is relaxed, and you can almost imagine yourself enjoying your food while sitting along the coast of New England.

But enough about that, what are we eating?!

Food & Drinks

Since you only really have one option for your meal: the buffet, that made our decision easy. For dinner, the buffet costs $49 per adult and $29 per child. We made our way over to see and take a look at the options!

A look at the buffet — there are LOTS of stations

The Cape May Cafe dinner buffet is full of SO MANY different types of eats for a whole lot of appetites. You’ll find lighter options like salad…

Salad

…vegetables like broccoli and green beans…

…plus more substantial items like pasta salad, shrimp…

If you’re a mac and cheese fiend, you’ll find plenty of that here…

Oh yeah, and you can also find pizza here if you’re not big into seafood and other items on the menu!

Of course, there are plenty of baked goods like cornbread…

…and desserts like these bundt cakes…

…brownies…

…and cupcakes. As you can see, there is a LOT to choose from here, and plenty more where this came from. But, how does it all taste?

Cupcakes

The roll was fluffy with a bit of sweetness to it. It was a decent roll, but again, nothing mind blowing, but it does the trick.

The salad had a creamy dressing on it, and it tasted very fresh. It didn’t have a whole lot of flavor to the dressing, but it was crunchy and tasty. You definitely don’t want to skip this mac and cheese in the kids’ section. It is SO creamy and cheesy. It is a white cheddar pasta, and it is wonderful. Definitely don’t miss it! Pro tip: Grab a roll and use it to sop up the cheesy sauce that is leftover.

Our plate!

The mashed potatoes were just okay. They were very potato-y. There aren’t many mix-ins in these, pretty much just potatoes that are mashed with a bit of butter mixed in. The cornbread was tasty — not great but not bad either. We wished it were a bit moister, but overall, it was not bad. Like a classic cornbread you could get from just about any restaurant.

The sirloin was tender and juicy, and really well-cooked, but not cooked too well done. It honestly doesn’t even need a sauce with it. It is very beefy tasting and has a smoky char on the outside. We really enjoyed the tofu rice. It kind of had an odd sweetness to it, but the more we ate, the more it grew on us. The rice is cooked well and still has a bit of a bite. It is covered in a creamy sauce, and then there are a variety of veggies mixed in. The house salad was also tasty. It had a thicker vinaigrette dressing on it, and it had almonds and strawberries mixed in with spinach. Everything tasted fresh and had a great crunch. And the combo of vinaigrette with the toppings worked well.

Lots of goodies

The salmon was delicious and perfectly cooked! Moist and flaky. It had a sweet chili sauce on it that was amazing. Our reporter could eat a whole platter of this salmon; it was fantastic! We also tried the Pasta Salad of the Day, which was a plant-based pasta salad. It had a lot of eggplant flavor and mushroom flavor, so it almost tasted a bit meaty. It had some green beans and red peppers in it that were nice and tender.

Cape May Cafe is an underrated hit

For dessert, we picked up the Cranberry Orange Tart. You could kind of tell these had likely been sitting for a bit. The crust was on the soggy side, but the filling was creamy and had lots of orange and cranberry flavors. The filling was light with a thin layer of jam on top. We enjoyed the fruitiness of this tart.

Our dessert plate

The cheesecake is so cute, and it was delicious. The cheesecake filling was creamy with a great texture in our opinion. It wasn’t overly light or overly dense; it was that perfect consistency in the middle for cheesecake.

The Boston Cream Pie Cupcake was our least favorite dessert we grabbed. The cupcake wasn’t super moist, and the frosting was very sweet. We did get the Boston Cream Pie inspiration, but it wasn’t anything fantastic and didn’t stand up as well to the other desserts.

Lots of dessert

Cape May Cafe is known for these bonbons, and they were definitely tasty! They are made with an Oreo cookie on the bottom and then topped with a light and creamy mousse, and then covered in a super thin layer of kinda crunchy cocoa powder. We really enjoyed these and had to go back for another one! They are like a cookies and cream mousse on top of an Oreo crust.

SO good

To drink, we picked up the Rum Swizzle for $15.50. This is made with Mount Gay Eclipse Rum with Tropical Juices and flavors of Guava and Mango. This drink was recommended by our server and is one of the most popular drinks at Cape May Cafe.

Rum Swizzle

You can definitely taste the rum in this drink. The main flavors to us were orange, pineapple, guava, and the rum flavor. This is definitely on the sweet side, and make sure to give it a good stir before you sip. Very fruity and very sweet. Not super complex flavors, but tasty nonetheless if you are looking for a sweet and tropical drink.

  1. This used to be a family favorite and a must do. But now it is must NO. Bring back the all-you-can-eat crablegs and be will return. I’m not gonna pay $35 for 5 legs on top of the $52 they charge for the dinner. WDW needs to reconsider this post-covid decision. SO PLEASE BRING THEM BACK…ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT CRABLEGS!

  2. The CMC is one of my favorite WDW buffets! You didn’t mention two of their finest offerings- the clam chowder and juicy pork ribs. (The chowder would be better if they bothered to complete cook the potatoes they mix in).
