Spirit Airlines landed for good when the airline permanently closed on May 2nd, 2026. The sudden closure axed more than 1,000 flights in central Florida alone.

Before the closure, Spirit offered six nonstop routes from the Tampa International Airport. If you were affected by the closure, then your summer travels will resume soon. TPA just announced that on July 1st, all six routes will be serviced again by other airlines!
Some of Spirit’s routes have already been taken over by other airlines. Notably, the route between Tampa and Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is now offered by Delta, Southwest, and Frontier. Tampa is yet again connected to the Detroit Metro Airport by Delta, Frontier, and Southwest.

In addition, direct flights from Chicago to Tampa are now offered by American, Frontier, United, and Southwest. And for Southerners, Spirit’s former route connecting Tampa and New Orleans has been taken over by Breeze and Southwest.

Plus, Spirit’s former route connecting the Tampa International Airport and Fort Lauderdale, Florida, is now offered by Breeze, JetBlue, and Southwest. (Go ahead, book that Disney Cruise out of Port Everglades!)

The last new flight out of the Tampa International Airport will connect to Atlantic City International Airport in New Jersey. Starting on July 1st, Breeze will be the only nonstop provider between Tampa and America’s Playground.

And for the Texans out there, Delta Air Lines will double the number of flights connecting the capital city to Tampa beginning on July 7th. The Austin-Bergstrom International Airport will now have two daily flights headed for the Tampa International Airport. The nonstop route began last year and surged in popularity.

We’re so excited that getting to Florida will still be easy after Spirit’s sudden closure. Stay tuned to AllEars for more travel news!
