I Learned My Lesson the HARD Way: Tips for Packing a Carry-On Full of Disney Souvenirs

Shopping for souvenirs is a big part of the Disney World experience, but for most visitors, so is getting them home on an airplane.

However, there are several ways to make sure all you’re new Disney treasures are conveniently packed and make it home in one place.

Extra Bag

If you’re a big Disney souvenir buyer, you should start planning your packing to head home before leaving for your trip. Specifically, pack an empty backpack in your carry-on suitcase, which you can then fill with all your souvenirs and carry as a personal item for your trip home.

NOTE: Be sure to check your airline’s rules and regulations to make sure your backpack matches their size specifications for a personal item.

Protect your finds!

When you purchase any smaller/or breakable items like figurines, charisma’s ornaments, or glassware, make sure to have them wrapped for travel. Most stores at the resort that sell these types of items will be able to do so for you at checkout.

Once you’re actually packing those items in your carry-on or personal item, also wrap those smaller or more breakable items in small Disney shopping bags, then once again surround them in a towel or clothing to further protect them.

If you’ve purchased any plush souvenirs, put them at the bottom of your bag to provide a base cushion, especially at the bottom of a backpack that’s going to be sitting under the seat in front of you.

Ship!

If all else fails (or if your souvenirs are too big), have things shipped home. You can either ship items directly from the store you’re purchasing from, or later consolidate your purchases and their receipts and ship from your hotel.
