The #1 Reason You Need A Backup Plan In Disney World This Summer

Before you set foot in Disney World, we recommend having a plan. A solid plan, at that, because the moment you enter those gates, some of it will inevitably go flying out the window.

And that’s not a terrible thing! When planning for Disney World, there’s a strange line you have to find for yourself, and it’s different for every person. Do you need a plan? Absolutely. Will it change? 100%, so it’s also important to be flexible, especially in the summer. Why is that, you ask? One word: storms.

Let’s take a look at wait times from Monday, May 11th.

Magic Kingdom

TRON Lightcycle / Run ended the day with an 80 minute wait, which is surprisingly only because of how rough the park day started out, combined with the fact that rain and storms shut down all outdoor rides for a solid hour in the middle of the day. The PeopleMover was closed for three hours outside of the storm window, and while that’s not enough to have us overly concerned just yet, we’ll be keeping a close eye on it.

Epcot

Both Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Test Track ended up tying at a 90 minute wait, which is impressive considering Test Track went down for two hours and STILL didn’t jump high enough to beat Cosmic Rewind. Are people really slowing down about riding this attraction now that the 3.0 version isn’t as new anymore? It’s looking like it for now, but we’ll see what wait times summer brings!

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

For the first time in, what feels like, forever, Avatar Flight of Passage had the highest wait time of 90 minutes at rope drop. While this used to be pretty on par with what we’d see every day, now this ride seems to peak anywhere between 8 AM and 2 PM, and we’re still trying to find the pattern. Now, could this be because summer guests who usually only come once a year are arriving, and they’re still under the impression that rope dropping it is best? That’s possible! For now, just assume this ride is all over the place, and if you see it at an hour and a half, know it’ll likely drop soon.

Rise of the Resistance hit a 105 minute wait, which is higher than we were expecting. That’s specially true considering it doesn’t look like storms hindered this park too badly, resulting in only Slinky Dog Dash closing for an hour, but that was hours AFTER Rise hit its highest time. Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway also closed for two hours for a seemingly unrelated issue, as that ride is all indoors.
