You are now entering the Twilight Zone.

We’ve just received an update on the new Tower of Terror movie, based on the Disney World ride, and we’re getting more and more excited.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Scarlett Johansson, the film’s producer, is working on developing the story of the iconic attraction.
Johansson says, “It’s a hard nut to crack. Harder than you think, because the ride itself, there’s some lore to it, but it’s… I don’t want to say thin, but it is, kind of!”

Based on Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone TV series universe, five guests enter the Twilight Zone after being in an elevator at the Hollywood Tower Hotel that is struck by lightning.
She goes on to say that the storyline of the ride “doesn’t have much to dig into” when turning it into a full-length movie, versus an attraction that is only a few minutes long.

Johansson also says, “That’s part of the mystery of the ride. It’s been a fun project to work on because it’s a blue-sky project. It has also proved to be a hard nut to crack. But we’ll crack the case of it. It’s taking shape!”
This isn’t the first movie to be made after the attraction. Disney released a 1997 movie titled Tower of Terror, based on the ride that opened in 1994.

Other Disney attractions have also inspired movies throughout the years. Rides like Pirates of the Caribbean, Haunted Mansion, and Jungle Cruise were adapted into movies after the rides were built, allowing guests at home to continue the storyline.

The most famous of these attraction movies is likely Pirates of the Caribbean, which has become a massive franchise and later inspired changes to the attraction by adding Captain Jack Sparrow to the ride scenes.

The Haunted Mansion has also inspired multiple movies based on the attraction. While some delve deep into the storyline of the manor, one of our favorite versions is the Muppets Haunted Mansion, which was released in 2021.

We’re very excited to see The Tower of Terror movie develop, and we’ll be thrilled to hear casting, release dates, and storylines. Keep following AllEars for more.
