Hidden Details You Don’t Want To Miss On The Reopened Big Thunder Mountain Railroad in Magic Kingdom

Big Thunder Mountain Railroad just reopened today! We just got off the ride and noticed so many awesome details. 

The ride has been completely redone, with a new track and ride vehicles! Here are all of our new favorite things about the wildest ride in the wilderness!

Detail One

The first detail is actually in the form of a major change to this attraction: the all-new track! The old track was clunky and rough, but this new track is completely different.

It is super smooth and even reminds us of Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, although this one has more thrill. We might even think that this new track is TOO smooth!

We know that is a shocking take, but given the theming of the ride, it feels a little disconnected to be on a clunky old train but feel like you are on a brand new rollercoaster.

Detail Two

Of course, the backstory of this attraction has been completely reimagined as well! While the ride was under refurbishment, Disney said, “The story of Big Thunder Mountain Railroad dates back to Olden Times, or rather, Golden Times, during the early days of America’s first major gold rush. When Barnabas T. Bullion struck gold in the Big Thunder region, he saw a future full of riches and hustled to start the Big Thunder Mountain Company.”

And one of our favorite details from this new storyline was the surprising Gold Nugget reveal. We thought this was a great addition to the climax of this ride, and an amazing way to tie into the new backstory!

Detail Three

Another detail we were shocked by was all the construction we were able to see. Throughout the outdoor portion of the ride, you can see the Piston Peak construction.

As construction continues, we are excited to see how these two lands are able to blend together.

Detail Four

And our FAVORITE hidden detail was this Blacksmith sign!

And now, if this sign at the end of the ride looks familiar, it’s because it used to hang on Tom Sawyer Island’s Fort Langhorn. We are obsessed with this subtle nod to our dearly missed Tom Sawyer Island.
