I go back and forth way too often, deciding if the Halloween or Christmas season is my personal favorite in Disney World. Every time I think I’ve decided on one, something changes, and then I flip back over!

Halloween holds a very special place in my heart, especially in Magic Kingdom for Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party. I’ve been to the party the past two years in a row (after not getting to go at all as a kid — we weren’t a Disney family — it’s been extra special), and now that Disney has announced the dates for their year’s event, as well as when tickets go on sale, there are a few things I NEED to make sure you know before you grab your tickets.
It’s Impossible To Do Everything…But You’ve Gotta Try
Okay, HANG ON. I know this sounds confusing, but hear me out. Just like on any normal day in Disney World, it’s going to be impossible to do everything at the party in one night. Most of the rides are open, and even though they’ve got lower wait times, when combined with all the food there is to eat, the characters to meet, and the special entertainment to see, there’s just not enough time to do it all!

With that being said, these tickets are EXPENSIVE, especially if you’re going on the highest end of tickets, closer to Halloween itself, which will cost you $229 per person. So my recommendation is to rest up the whole day and be ready to hit the ground RUNNING to do all you possibly can during your party night, that way you can make the most of it all. That also means having a plan going in, AS WELL as a Plan B, because sometimes, things don’t go as planned. If you’ve already got Plan B in your head, you don’t have to take valuable time to pivot and come up with a new idea on the spot.
Utilize ALL Your Time
While the party itself is from 7 PM to midnight, partygoers can actually enter with their party ticket as early as 4 PM. This time is CRUCIAL! While party food won’t be available yet, trick or treating won’t start until later, and there will still be day guests in the park, THIS is the time to make use of.

This is when you can get your wristband, study the park map so you know where everything is, and, sometimes most importantly, get something SUBSTANTIAL to eat before the party starts. You can also knock out a few rides, if you’d like; that way, you don’t feel you’re spending time on them when the party exclusives start.
Prepare For Weather
Let’s be real — it’s Florida during rainy season AND hurricane season, so rain is very likely to happen during your party. Last year, it was raining for most of my party, and while that was certainly a bit of a bummer, I still had a great time, because I was able to pivot my plan!

I was very happy to still get to see the Boo To You parade, even though it was adjusted to keep it safe for the performers (so it was in B mode, essentially), and I still had a great party night. Did it look different from what I originally planned? For sure, but since I had planned in advance, I didn’t feel that my night was wasted at all.
Really Look At The Offerings Before Purchasing
This is SUPER important, and I need everyone to listen closely — it is OKAY if something Disney’s offerings isn’t right up your alley, or isn’t a good fit for you. That’s why Disney tells you all about their events before tickets are released, so you can make a decision if it’s right for you or not.

The truth is that, while some of us LOVE Not-So-Scary, there are some Disney fans out there who just won’t be a big fan of the offerings available, and that’s okay! In my opinion, it’s best to skip the event and spend your money elsewhere, perhaps on another after hours event that’s a bit more in line with what you like. Or, if you’re someone who doesn’t like to stay up late, it may be better to spend that money on some special dining experiences, an upgraded hotel stay, etc.
Repeated Visits May Not Be The Way To Go
After going to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party two years in a row, I can tell you that I absolutely love it and think it’s a ton of fun…BUT since I usually go by myself and there (so far) aren’t a ton of different offerings this year, I’ve chosen to set my sights on Oogie Boogie Bash instead. And there’s nothing wrong with that!

If you’ve experienced something at Disney a few times and feel like you want to experience another new offering, or one that’s new to you, go for it! I know, I know, FOMO (the fear of missing out) can be really hard to get over, but these tickets aren’t cheap, and the last thing you want is to buy a ticket and then wish you had done something else instead. That’s the beauty of Disney offerings, so many different options — it’s more likely that everyone can find something they’ll like, and you can try different things out year after year!
