3 Times You Need to DITCH the Rides at Disney World

OK, Disney fans. Put down the bubble wands and walk away from the gift shop slowly…this is for your own good. We see people make the WRONG decisions in Disney World all the time, and we want to stop you from running into the same problems.

​Here’s the thing. Some Disney World rides wind up with ridiculously high wait times. But, if you time it right, you can ride that same attraction earlier or later in the day and experience a MUCH shorter line! So, what are the warning signs? We’re glad you asked! Let’s talk about it.

In our experience, there are three times you need to throw in the towel and ditch the rides in Disney World. Why? Well, sometimes, the wait just isn’t worth the experience itself!

1. When the wait time exceeds your personal limit

Sure, Mad Tea Party (a.k.a. the spinning teacups) is a cute ride. But are you really going to wait 25+ minutes for a ride that only lasts for about a minute and a half? Especially when the wait time can drop to between five and ten minutes later in the day? No! Ditch that ride — go find something else to do!

Of course, everyone’s personal limit is different. You might be willing to wait 45 minutes to ride the Haunted Mansion while your friend refuses to wait more than 30 minutes. But if you’re going to (begrudgingly) get in a long line in Disney World, maybe reconsider. How much fun are you really going to have when you spend the whole time thinking about how long you had to wait in line?

2. When it’s nap time

We see it on a daily basis. Even if a little one is out of the regular nap phase, things are different in Disney World. We’re grown adults, and even WE need a nap after a busy morning in Disney World, so just imagine how it feels to be an overstimulated child in the heat of the afternoon.

Sometimes, even though it may seem tempting to try one more ride before heading back, you have to know when to walk away. A break in the air conditioning makes a BIG difference.

3. After a big meal

Here are two things that do NOT go together: 1.) Hot, heavy sit-down meals in Disney World and 2.) Fast, jerky rides. Just ate a meal at Le Cellier in EPCOT? That’s great! Stay AWAY from Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind.

Even if you THINK you’ll be okay, it’s best to wait an hour or so before hopping on that big drop ride or windy roller coaster after a meal. Take it from us — it’s not worth it.
