It can get pretty busy in Disney World, but luckily there are ways to avoid the crowds.
You can choose to go during a slower time of the year, plan out your day so that you’re not doing the most popular things at peak hours, or even get Genie+ so you can skip some lines. Right now, the wait times haven’t been too bad in Disney World, but that could change. So, let’s take a look at the wait times from yesterday, Monday, September 12th, to find out.
Wait times are a great indicator of how busy Disney World is, but there are also other ways you can tell. If Mobile Order windows fill up fast, after hours events are sold out, or there are simply just people everywhere you look, it’s safe to say that the parks are pretty busy.
But, if you’re super worried about being stuck in lines all day, getting Disney Genie+ is a good option if it fits into your budget. Genie+ works similarly to FastPass in that it lets you skip the regular lines to get on rides by using the Lightning Lanes. There are also individual Lightning Lanes you can buy for popular rides like Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind or Rise of the Resistance.

That’s your look at the wait times from yesterday! As you can see, the highest was Rise of the Resistance at a whopping 180 minutes — yikes. That’s a lot higher than the times we’ve been seeing recently!

I was there with my family on 9/12. A number of those wait times from 5pm to close are very off. Most were actually quite a bit less than listed. Aladdin’s flying carpets on the other hand was way over a 25 min wait. We were standing in line for over 30 minutes and it broke down 3 times in that timeframe and we hadn’t even made it halfway through the line. We, and a number of other families chose to walk away at that point as it wasn’t worth it, especially for a ride that is nearly identical to numerous other rides through MK and other parks.
That morning we were at AK and while Everest was listed at 25 minutes around noon, I rode it twice (once with my mother and once with my husband, someone had to watch the 5yo that doesn’t like rides in the dark) in less than 30 minutes, and we did not use LL either time. And between noon and 1pm Na’vi river journey wasn’t near as long as posted either. While we did use LL for that one, people that entered the standby line the same time we entered the LL entrance were only about 10 people back in line when we got on. We did have a short wait in LL,but noose than 15-20 min.
In fact our entire trip the only ride that wasn’t less of a wait was the magic carpets. Everything else was slightly to significantly less than the posted wait times. So much so that we didn’t end up using the LL near as often as I thought we might.
Blimey. I was there on the 10th and did three parks in one 9:00-23:00 crazy day (only free day while visiting from the UK for work). Managed to do Rise of the Resistance in under 30 minutes first thing in the morning (at regular opening time) and did Smugglers Run twice in a row because there was NO ONE in the queue. The only ride I circled back to because the lines were too long were Jungle Cruise. The cast members told to come back at closing and I got in then in under 15 mins. I must have been extremely lucky looking at these timings!
Well, it was 180 minutes but one hour later, it was only 85 minutes. Something was off with the 180 minute estimate.
Wait times for 9/13 and 9/14 were supposed to be very low. They were huge! Half of Australia was in the park. Resistance was closed all morning on 9/14 and when it opened went straight to >100. This is insane. The magic is long gone.
We were there this week. Monday EPCOT, did everything. Got an early rime for Guardians. Did genie plus so never waited longer than LL oe walk on for anything.
Tuesday was MK. Did G+ there as well. Did everything except Space Mountain (too jerky), speedway, teacups, Dumbo. Not rides we normally do. We did everything before we left at three. Except under the sea, we did that during MNSS.pirates was down that night and Haunted mansion was too long a line for the ghost schtik outside. Saw all the shows and daytime events as well.
Went to Studios on Wednesday. Bought rise because I ain’t waiting. But did everything there as well, including Indiana, Frozen, and Beauty shows. Lunch at Mamma Melroses, which I actually enjoyed a lot more than I thought. Don’t do tower because it’s basically an elevator. And slinky was closed when we left but had passes for it but went back to hotel and had sushi. We had a blast. I took my mom down for some us time.
For us G+ was great because it gave us time to fill between rides. Worked perfectly as intended. The fact that Slinky LL were still available when we left at seven was a statement to availability. Weather was more of an obstacle than crowds. It definitely was busier than expected but didn’t stop me and my 76 year old mother.
Lived the grits for breakfast at Steakhouse 71 too.
