Why Genie+ Can Still Be a Useful Investment in Disney World

One of our favorite ways to gauge Disney World wait time trends is to take a look at every day’s standby waits — hour by hour.

There are certain times of day that tend to have shorter wait times (the beginning and end of the day) and some rides temporarily close more often than others (looking at you, Rise of the Resistance!). Ride closures can create a domino effect on the wait times of other rides, but did any rides close long enough to cause problems yesterday?

Every day in Disney World is different, and while on some days a ride like Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance closes for the entire day, on other days everything seems to run smoothly! August 3rd was a rough day in Disney’s Hollywood Studios, but August 4th was a much better day.

Still, it’s a good idea to prepare yourself for the possibility that a ride can temporarily close for an hour or up to the entire day, and that means you might want to rely on buying Genie+ to maximize your time in the park by utilizing the faster Lightning Lane option. Individual Lightning Lanes are an additional cost for popular rides like Rise of the Resistance, and they may be a worthy expense to save time.

Early Theme Park Entry and Extended Evening Hours are additional ways to take advantage of lower wait times, though you must qualify by staying in certain Disney World hotels.

During your visit, keep your eyes on the My Disney Experience app for any ride closures that could affect your visit, and if you have your heart set on one ride you might want to consider building in an extra park day just in case.

Let’s take a look at the ride wait times from August 4th! Interestingly, three different rides had wait times of 135 minutes — but none of them were Rise of the Resistance! See them bolded below.
