As we inch closer to Christmas Day in Disney World, we’re starting to see more crowds arriving in the parks, along with higher wait times.
That’s to be expected for the holiday season, though, and if you’re coming to Disney World within the next few weeks, you should be prepared to practice a lot of patience as wait times creep up.
Just to give you an idea of wait times — at one point on December 8th, 2022, Millenium Falcon: Smugglers Run showed a 175 MINUTE wait — that’s nearly 3 hours! But the next hour it was down to just 20 minutes. So sometimes it really pays to wait and watch those wait times carefully.
If you see a really long wait time in Disney World, don’t panic. It could be extremely long due to an earlier closure, a temporary issue, or just an influx of guests. Watch the My Disney Experience app carefully and look at the predicted wait times on the FREE Genie service.
That can help you see when wait times are predicted to go down. Check back often and when you see the wait time drop, make your way to the ride quickly (but safely).
Want to SKIP the Wait?
What can you do to spend a minimal amount of time in line for rides? Well, you could opt to pay for Genie+ and the Individual Lightning Lane option for those rides that have it (and include it in your Disney World budget).
This will allow you to skip the standby lines for rides and access the shorter Lightning Lane lines. However, with surge pricing likely the closer we get to the holidays, that could cost a lot if you have a large party.
You could also look into taking advantage of things like Early Theme Park Entry or Extended Evening Hours. These perks (exclusive to Disney World hotel guests) allow you to spend time in the parks without the rest of the crowds.
You could also rope drop, stay in the parks late, consider using Free Genie to watch those anticipated wait times, and even ride attractions when others don’t want to (like during fireworks and parades).
