Did the New EPCOT Ride Closure Impact Crowds and Wait Times? The Answer Might Surprise You!

You know the saying “when one door closes, another door opens”? We’re curious to find out if that applies to rides at Disney World.

Just recently, we said “see ya soon” to EPCOT’s beloved Spaceship Earth while it goes under refurbishment for an undisclosed amount of time. While that “door” might be closing for now, did that seem to complicate things for EPCOT’s crowds at other rides, or did we really even see an impact on EPCOT’s wait times at all?

To answer that question, we dug deep, and what we found just might surprise you! EPCOT’s Spaceship Earth will be under refurbishment for a while; however, Disney has yet to confirm when exactly we should expect to see the ride in operation once again.

Since EPCOT is down one of its significant attractions (with an ability to take in a fairly steady flow of traffic), we wouldn’t blame you for thinking this closure would impact the wait times for the park’s other rides and attractions.

Surprisingly, though, it seems that EPCOT crowds were prepared for the change and adjusted accordingly. Most of the park’s ride wait times seemed barely affected by the closure, if at all. The highest wait times throughout the day consistently stemmed from the park’s newest rides, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, and the recently updated Test Track.
