If you’re planning a trip to Disney World, you likely have heard people talk about rope dropping and how it’s a great way to save tons of time on some of your favorite rides.
That’s not incorrect, but sometimes it’s NOT the best way to get the lowest wait time, as seen by THREE different Disney World parks yesterday alone. This is a perfect example of why it’s extremely important to pay close attention to wait times at rope drop, and if you feel something is a little *too* long, go with a Plan B!
Let’s check out wait times from Monday, March 9th!
Magic Kingdom
To our shock, TRON Lightcycle / Run STARTED the day off with its highest wait of 95 minutes. Yes, that means that rope drop was busier than the ENTIRE rest of the day. While this isn’t wildly common, it certainly can happen, and is why we recommend having multiple rope drop plans. The ride even went down the second to last hour of the day, along with the PeopleMover, and yet, the wait time still didn’t shoot up higher, which is extra impressive.

Cosmic Rewind wasn’t far behind, hitting a 115 minute wait at the very end of the day, so it goes without saying that both of these rides are still the most popular in the park. Frozen Ever After, Spaceship Earth, and Journey into Imagination also closed during the day, but fortunately, they didn’t cause too many issues.

Avatar Flight of Passage had an 85 minute wait at the very start of the day, instead of jumping up in the middle of the day, as we’ve seen recently. And by the end of the day? It was only a 35 minute wait! That’s VERY low for one of the most popular rides around the whole resort, especially since Expedition Everest was temporarily closed at the same time. Again, sometimes it’s actually NOT best to rope drop the most popular ride in the park!

Not only did Slinky Dog Dash start out the day with the highest wait of 110 minutes…it also CLOSED for five hours, with four of those being consecutive at the very end of the day. Now, in this case, it wouldn’t have been great to rope drop this attraction, but it ALSO would not have been beneficial to wait until the very end of the day. If you’ve got a ride you KNOW you want to ride in the parks, and are also trying to find the lowest wait, we recommend keeping a close eye on wait times, but not waiting until the end of the day in case it goes down, like we saw happen here.
