Your Disney World Rope Drop Strategy Needs To CHANGE in 2026

In 2026, we’re showing up to Disney World with NEW strategies for conquering the parks!

Magic Kingdom

Things are changing in a rather major fashion with the list of rides and attractions available at the parks, so your plan for tackling everything needs to adapt as well. That’s why we’re here to share our NEW rope-dropping strategy for Disney World in 2026!

Magic Kingdom

To start planning our rope drop strategies, we’re heading to Magic Kingdom first! Here, two major rides are currently undergoing changes, with set reopening dates in spring 2026. Big Thunder Mountain Railroad is closed to get an updated track and a “little bit of new magic.”

Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin in Tomorrowland is also closed at this time, and when it reopens, it’ll have refreshed ride vehicles with NEW handheld blasters. The ride will also have interactive targets and a new ride scene with an animatronic named Buddy.

SO excited

So with these two major ride changes happening, we’re going to suggest that if you’re visiting spring or later, you rope drop one of these options! Buzz Lightyear’s Space Ranger Spin was previously included in Early Theme Park Entry, so we’re hoping that perk continues when it reopens.

EPCOT

Heading to EPCOT? There are some updates over there as well! In 2025, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind dropped its virtual queue and changed to standby and Lightning Lane queues only. This means if you don’t want to pay for that Lightning Lane, rope dropping the ride may be your best strategy!

Cosmic Rewind

The other great option here is to rope drop the newly revamped Test Track. This ride reopened in 2025 with a brand-new version — new ride vehicles, new scenes, and some incredible technology integrated into the experience.

Both of these rides tend to have some of the highest wait times in the park, so hitting them first thing in the morning is a great plan.

Hollywood Studios

There’s one big ride update happening at Hollywood Studios in 2026, and that’s over at Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster. Currently, the ride stars the popular rock band Aerosmith, but that’s all changing mid-year. The ride’s current version will be open through March 1st, 2026, closing on the 2nd to get a Muppet overhaul.

Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster starring The Muppets will open sometime in summer 2026. So if you’re visiting early in the year, you’ll want to rope drop this coaster to get a last ride on the Aerosmith version, and if you’re visiting in the back half of the year, you’ll want to rope drop to get a first look at the Muppet version. Weird, right?!

Animal Kingdom

The first tip we’ll share for Animal Kingdom is that the beloved ride DINOSAUR (and the rest of DinoLand, U.S.A.) is closing permanently on February 2nd. So if you want to travel back in time to find the Iguanadon, you may consider rope dropping this ride for the first month of the year.

Dinosaur

Then, starting in summer 2026, we’re going to recommend you actually rope drop a character meet-and-greet (depending on what time it starts for the day — that’s yet to be seen). Bluey and her sister, Bingo, are coming to Animal Kingdom, and their arrival is HIGHLY anticipated by fans of the hit TV series. We have a feeling the wait time is going to be long for this one!

We love Bluey!

With so many attraction updates coming in 2026, you’re going to need to completely change your strategy when you hit the parks. We’ll be in Disney World every step of the way to share our updated tips.
