Ultimate Guide to the Disney Adventure Cruise Ship

Hi, it’s me, Quincy! Emma and I are here on the maiden voyage of the newest addition to the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Adventure.

Imagination Garden!

The newest ship will set sail from Singapore and cruise through Southeast Asia on three and four-night voyages. The ship focuses on big adventures. In fact, Iron Man himself, Robert Downey Jr., was named the godfather of this ship. We are so excited to explore Disney’s newest ship and share all of the details with you. So, come along!

Arrival

If you’re used to getting your luggage tags in the mail for your cruise, heads up that the Disney Adventure is a little different. For example, if you are doing ground transportation from the airport, then you get the tags at the airport. Otherwise, they will print it for you when you get to the cruise terminal and attach it to your bags.

We’re here!

A couple of things couldn’t go in our bags. My water bottle was in an outside pocket, and she made me take it. Emma’s travel neck pillow was attached to the outside of her bag and not inside, and she brought it over because they had to take that as well. Neither of those things had been an issue when we cruised out of the US. The items were still allowed on the ship, just not in checked luggage. We just had to carry them! My water bottle could even go through security with some water in it

Check-In!

Make sure you have a copy of your Port arrival form downloaded, because the service and Wi-Fi have been very slow since we got here. When we arrived at the port, we could connect to the Wi-Fi, and it’s actually pretty quick, but they don’t have the navigator app running right now. If you need to access your arrival form or anything in it, you can open it when you’re off Wi-Fi, but not when you are on the ship Wi-Fi.

Boarding

When we first got on the ship, we felt it was extremely different from any Disney cruise ship! I was expecting some familiarity, but there was none. It feels like an entirely new experience. There are multiple gangways when you board, and you actually do the scanning of your Port arrival form once you are on the ship. Instead of ending up in some beautiful, exciting atrium, you end up in an elevator Bay. They do not announce your name, but there were a lot of cast members who were standing just inside the entrance to the ship with a ton of energy, welcoming everybody and waving, and it was still really exciting. Right when we walked in, Captain Minnie was standing nearby, and she was actually wandering, so she had to keep moving.

So many people!

There are actually so many escalators. No, literally, I was shocked by the number of escalators. I love them because I hate the option being wait 80 years for the elevator or taking the stairs. There are escalators not between every level and not at every section of the ship, but more escalators than I was expecting.

So many esclators!

Magic bands are also not a thing here — at least not for the current sailing. They told us at check-in that there were no magic bands here at all, and they haven’t been mentioned again.

On the Disney Adventure!

My first impression — the ship is AWESOME! It looks so cool exploring. It feels so different from exploring other Disney cruise ships. Where those feel like a more contained experience. This feels like a serious sense of Discovery and exploration because the spaces are just so big, and those themed areas really do their jobs of feeling like you’re entirely different districts of the ship.

WE’RE HERE!

The muster drill was a little bit different than other Disney cruises. More of the stations seemed to be in indoor locations, and after going through the safety briefing, they did a phased dismissal. They’ll come over the intercom and dismiss people from the drill by calling out stations individually, helping keep the crowds from flooding the ship all at once. Everything was in English, so we could make sure we understood all the safety information.

Imagination Garden!

Also, those big outdoor courtyards do get direct sunlight. I was standing in the sun to wait for the sail away show, and the humidity here in Singapore is insane. I got unbelievably hot standing in the sun for like 20 to 25 minutes.

The pool!

We will admit, the layout of the ship is pretty confusing. We are doing our best with it so far, and I would say I’m comfortable now with finding those big main central areas of Imagination Garden and Discovery Reef, but otherwise, I am going to be relying heavily on the maps. It would be super easy to spend a ton of time on the ship and not even see the whole thing because there is so much eye-catching stuff. The ship is huge!

The size of the ship is due in large part to the fact that there are seven different themed areas on the Disney Adventure. Disney Imagination Garden is the closest thing you get to the grand atrium onboard this ship, with a large open space, a stage, and a stunning castle at the forefront. Other areas include Town Square, San Fransokyo Street, Marvel Landing, Disney Discovery Reef, Wayfinder Bay, and Toy Story Place. We’ll be exploring all of them in FULL!

Discovery Reef

For everyone wondering, pretty much everything here is in English! English is one of the official languages of Singapore, and all the Cast Members on board speak English. The shows are also in English. So if you’re traveling from the U.S. to board this ship, you shouldn’t have any language barriers, which is HUGE.

Themeing

When it comes to first impression, we were absolutely FLOORED! This ship is incredible, and even that feels like an understatement. It is such a high cut above the other ships — when it comes to theming and design, it leaves them in the dust. I would say that it is not as beautiful as the Treasure, but it’s close, and it might be equal.

Imagination Garden!

The ship has such an incredible amount of detail. It blows the Treasure out of the water in that aspect. This is detailed like the theme parks! It’s like walking through a brand new theme park land and going through the queue for an attraction, where they’ve shoved details in every possible space. I know we said that about Treasure and Destiny, but now that was wrong. This is what theme park level detail looks like.

Look, the castle!

San Fransokyo looks like a living street where you can read the newspapers, and there are snacks stocked in the closed corner stalls, and every storefront has the signage that’s appropriate to the store that would be there if it were a real store. There are full vending machines that are fully stocked with in-universe items.

We can’t believe we’re here!

The Ocean Ears Club is unbelievably detailed, and the same can be said about the WEB Workshop. It looks like you were standing in Peter Parker’s workshop with trophies for science fairs and mini versions of the little web slinger robots. It is theme park-level detailed in a way that none of the other ships are.

Sail-Away Show

There are multiple sail-away shows, which is great because you can’t really see the fact that you’re not sailing away, and it makes it so that it’s sort of easy to catch one, depending on when you get on the ship. The first character you see in the sail-away show is Genie. They have a kid come up and rub the magic lamp and make a wish, and then Genie comes out. Of course, you also see Captain Mickey and Captain Minnie. The princesses come out — Elsa, Cinderella, and Tiana. Then there were some Marvel characters, too, including Ms. Marvel and Spider-Man. I loved seeing all of the dancers, too.

Sail-Away Show!

Like usual, they do blow the horn during the show. So you get to hear that iconic Disney cruise horn, and they sort of have a dance party both before and after the sail away, so that the energy stays really high on that deck.

This is something special

It is pretty easy to get a good spot for the sail-away show. I stood up front, like 10 minutes before it started, to get a really good spot. You can see really well from everywhere because there’s a huge screen and there are grassy steps that you can go sit on about halfway through the Imagination Garden that give a really good view of the show.

Entertainment

There are three of almost everything as opposed to two when it comes to the bigger shows and moments. Like the character dance party or Disney Seas the Adventure. There was one around 5:45 PM, one around 7:00 PM, and one around 8:15 PM. You can catch a show when you’re not at dinner, which I think is really interesting.

Hi Daisy!

We’ll keep you updated on all the entertainment we see during our voyage!

Attractions

The ship also has its own little Marvel area of rides called Marvel Landing, and we had a chance to ride some attractions — that’s right, you can ride attractions at sea. Now, I’ll admit that I wasn’t impressed with the Tomorrowland Speedway vibes of Pym Quantum Racers, which did ANYTHING but race. Seriously, this is a slow ride meant more for the kiddies.

On Pym Quantum Racers

Groot Galaxy Spin is another ride pretty much targeted at kids, but we had to ride it…for science!

Groot Galaxy Spin

It’s basically Groot’s version of Dumbo, but it has a super fun soundtrack, and that made it a lot of fun. Kids will love it, which is kinda’ the point.

Marvel Style Studio

I got to live out my best Spider-Man dreams in the Marvel Style Studio, which is sort of like Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique, but with a Marvel theme.  Getting full-on Spider-Man face paint? Check. Done.

Spider-Man Quincy!

There are three packages available at the studio, so you can choose something simple from face paint to something more elaborate that even includes a costume.

Dining

We found out that for the quick service restaurants, reservations may be required. However, if it’s not busy, you can just get in without one. We made them, and it’s super easy. We definitely saw people get turned away at the busier spots, though.

Dining at the Disney Adventure!

The way all of those little quick services work is you walk in, and you go up to like basically a Chipotle-style counter where you order with a Cast Member, and you let them know what you want on your plate, and they load your plate up for you. Then there is a space with squeeze bottles for sauces, and there’s an interior dining space that makes it feel like an entire encompassing little restaurant, and they also have exterior dining spaces that match the theme of the restaurant.

We’re so excited!

I think these are such an incredible addition to the dining lineup. They really fill the gap between pool service, dining, and buffet. Sometimes you want like a quick service dining experience, and that’s not really something they have on the ships outside of the pool counters. So these are really incredible! Especially because the food was really good and they are included in your cruise fare. They’re not an upcharge.

Here’s the menu!

Emma and I both had really great food at Mowgli’s Eatery and Stitch’s Ohana Grill. We also had good food at Grandma Tala’s and Cosmic Kebabs. All four of these we felt were a cut above typical Disney Cruise Line food. The variety of options was pretty shocking as well. In fact, Emma thinks she found one of the best Disney burgers at Stitch’s Ohana Grill!

For rotational dining, we ate at the Tangled and Frozen-themed restaurant, Enchanted Summer House Restaurant, where we sat in Olaf’s room (that’s what it’s called) and dined on some pretty tasty appetizers and entrees.

There are several small, quick-service spots on the ship that fill the gap between pool service, rotational dining, and buffet. We’ll be giving you a full review of everything.

Stateroom

The hallways for the state rooms are bigger. You can tell from the pictures, and they are as big as they look in the pictures. I think the reason for this is that they’re two-sided, with doors on either side of the hallway. So, they have to be a little wider to accommodate people entering on either side, but it is much more comfortable to walk up and down these hallways.

There are so many different rooms available on this ship, including inside rooms, oceanview rooms, verandah rooms, concierge rooms, and royal suites, so there’s really something here for everyone. Here’s a first look at our Deluxe Garden View Stateroom with Verandah.

View from our room!

The room has a balcony view into the middle of the ship. On this boat, you can get balconies facing inward or out to sea. We’re going to share an even more in-depth room tour with you, so stay tuned for that!

Merchandise

It’s not a vacation without shopping! During our first day onboard, we got notified that World of Disney, World of Disney Too, and Duffy and Friends shops would all require reservations for shopping in the evening to help mitigate crowds and lines.

  1. I’m a 70+ year old true Disney fan. How are the mobility issues on this ship. From pictures posted on various sites I see lots of levels, stairs and escalators. My sister and I really hate the Wish lay out because of this issue.
