Disney cruises are gearing up for a big year in 2026, especially with the launch of the new Disney Adventure cruise ship. If you’re sailing with Disney this year, it doesn’t matter if it’s your first voyage or your 100th — it’s imperative that you are familiar with the cruise line’s policies before ever setting foot on the ship.  While we absolutely recommend reading up on your ship’s guidelines before your trip, we want to point out several rules and policies that Disney mandates aboard every ship in its fleet.

Prohibited Items

Cruise lines pack a bunch of people into a confined space before sailing them around the world on the open ocean — surrounded by nothing but deep waters, fish, and no civilization in sight. The possibility of danger is heightened during a cruise, so the list of prohibited items is more extensive than one you’d find at one of Disney’s theme parks or hotels.

As such, expect to find the following items PROHIBITED during your 2026 voyage:

  • Weapons & Firearms
  • Marijuana & Illicit Drugs
  • Bicycles
  • Blenders
  • Bottle Sterilizers and Warmers
  • Coffee Makers
  • Diffusers
  • Electric Blankets
  • Electric Irons and Steamers
  • Emergency Position Indicating Radio Beacons (EPIRB)
  • Extension Cords, Power Strips, Multi-Plugs and Purge Protectors
  • Footwear with wheels (such as Heelys roller shoes)
  • Ham Radios
  • Heating Elements
  • Heating Pads
  • Hookah Pipes
  • Hot Plates
  • Hover boards
  • Knives
  • Lasers
  • Metal Detectors
  • Microwave Ovens
  • Power Tools, Hand Tools and Toolboxes
  • Recreational and Sporting Equipment
  • Remote-Controlled Airplanes, Drones, Toy Vehicles, Star Wars Droids
  • Rice Cookers
  • Roller or inline skates
  • Scissors with blades exceeding 4″
  • Seasonal and/or Strands of Celebratory Lightbulbs
  • Segways
  • Skateboards
  • Streaming Devices (Amazon Fire Stick, Apple TV, Google Chromecast, Roku, etc.)
  • Toasters and Toaster Ovens

These items are largely banned due to how unsafe they are on a cruise ship. Anything that can cause a fire could lead to fatalities, and other prohibited items like drones and RC vehicles present real safety risks in confined spaces. These prohibited items are not negotiable and could be confiscated.

Please note that pets aren’t allowed on Disney cruise ships unless they are service animals — in which case you MUST notify Disney at least 72 hours prior to sailing.

Additionally, the following items REQUIRE inspection:

  • Baby monitors
  • Humidifiers
  • Portable fans
  • Sleep machines
  • White noise machines

The Disney Cruise Line also has strict policies in place for food. Homemade, precooked, perishable foods, and open food containers are BANNED from the Disney ships. Nonperishable snack foods in original factory-sealed packaging are allowed. “All items must either be consumed prior to returning to your home port or remain unopened.”

You can get snacks onboard.

Guests are also not allowed to bring coolers and ice chests aboard, no larger than 12″ x 12″ x 12″ (30.5cm x 30.5cm x 30.5cm). With all that said, specialized medications, baby food, or “items related to dietary constraints” are allowed.

Fruit Salad

Per Disney, breast milk and coolers used for storing medications must be stored in carry-on luggage only.

Alcohol Limitations

Disney Cruise Line guests 21 years of age and older “may bring a maximum of 2 bottles of UNOPENED wine or sparkling wine (no larger than 750 ml) or 6 beers (no larger than 12 ounces) on board at the beginning of the voyage and at each port of call.” You will need to pack these in your carry-on. Disney notes that “Any alcohol packed in checked luggage will be removed and not returned, and no compensation will be offered.”

Bottles of wine

Keep in mind that bringing wine on board and consuming it at a dining room will cost a $29 corkage fee per bottle.

Partially used bottles and those in which the seal is broken are not allowed, as are wines not in their original container. Liquors, spirits, or “excess” wine and beer purchased at the various ports will be stored until the end of the cruise. Additionally, if you bring alcohol onboard, you cannot consume it in any lounge or public area.

The Disney Treasure

The drinking age could fluctuate based on your original port, and some cruises let adults under the age of 20 consume alcoholic beverages. Some require parental/guardian consent while others don’t, so you should read up on the guidelines before your departure.

Baggage Limitations

The baggage limitations aren’t just about prohibited items. You also have to limit yourself to a “reasonable amount of clothing and personal effects without charge, not to exceed 2 bags per person.”

The rooms!

Ultimately, you’re allowed two checked bags plus one carry-on bag and one personal item per person, so pack within those means.

Dress Code Policy

Casual attire will be just fine in most areas of the ship (aside from swimsuits and tank-tops), but some of the adult-exclusive restaurants are classified as “elegant dining experiences” that require formal to semi-formal attire. Since this is a cruise ship, there are also some instances when dress-casual attire (like dress pants, jeans in good condition, collared shirts, dressy tops, and lifestyle shoes) will fly. Disney notes that brunch at Palo and Palo Steakhouse will accept dress shorts.
