The maiden voyage for Disney’s newest cruise ship, the Disney Adventure, is happening on March 10th, and we just got some pretty cool news about it!
Disney Legend and the man who helped build the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Robert Downey Jr., has just been named the godparent for the Disney Adventure. Let’s take a look at the details!
Disney recently shared this news ahead of the new ship’s opening, which will set sail from Singapore and cruise through Southeast Asia on three and four-night voyages. The ship has seven themed areas that feature Disney, Pixar, and, of course, Marvel. In fact, there is a heavy emphasis on Marvel with this new ship, so it makes sense that RDJ is now the godfather of the ship.
This is actually something that happens with each Disney Cruise Line. Every Disney Cruise Line ship gets a godparent, someone who will bring good luck and great voyages to the ship and its passengers. “Our new ship continues Disney Cruise Line’s tradition of bringing great stories to life at sea, and we are honored that Robert Downey Jr., who has guided audiences through unforgettable Marvel stories, is the official godparent for the Disney Adventure,” said Josh D’Amaro, Chairman, Disney Experiences and incoming CEO of The Walt Disney Company.
Robert Downey Jr. helped build one of the greatest cinematic universes of all time as Tony Stark/Iron Man. The MCU started with the release of Iron Man in 2008, which was the cornerstone of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, the highest-grossing film franchise of all time. Downey has appeared in 10 MCU projects, and is set to return as Doctor Doom in Marvel Studios’ Avengers: Doomsday, which is hitting theatres on December 18th, 2026. He was also named an official Disney Legend in 2019.
Robert Downey Jr. was honored, saying, “It’s impossible to describe the majesty of the Adventure, and to be its godparent is an honor. As the largest ship in the Disney fleet, a gargantuan blessing must be bestowed … I’ll do my darndest.”
The new ship will feature “Marvel Landing” on the top decks, where guests can experience Tony Stark’s Ironcycle Test Run, the first roller coaster on a Disney Cruise Line ship and the longest of its kind at sea. The Disney Imagination Garden area is where the “Avengers Assemble!” live stage production will take place. It will have jaw-dropping stunts and special effects during an action-packed battle of Marvel Super Heroes and Villains. Plus, there will be even more Marvel experiences available.
