Disney World Just Quietly Closed This Popular Lounge

If you’ve followed along with us for a while, you’ll know we have a Trader Sam’s secret. Now, there’s almost always a line to get into Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, but if you head on over to the bar’s outdoor lounge, Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace, you can generally get in without a wait and get the same food and drinks.

Well, this trick won’t work for a little while because we just noticed that Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace has suddenly closed temporarily.

UPDATE: The Walt Disney World website has been updated to show that this closure will last through June.

We looked at the Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace page on the Disney World website and noticed a message that says that the lounge is currently closed for refurbishment and to check back for updates. We had no notice of this closure in advance, so this might seem quite sudden.

We also checked to see if there’s any indication of when the lounge might reopen, but it’s still showing no hours as far out as the calendar goes, which is April 15th. So if you had plans to visit this lounge and avoid the lines at Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, you’re just out of luck.

If you do want to try some of the drinks available at Trader Sam’s, we recommend getting to the Grog Grotto as soon as it opens, which is usually around 11 AM. You’ll want to be there before that, though, so you can get through the doors when they open. You can also use the Disney World Walk-Up List, but it can fill up quickly. This spot doesn’t take reservations, so you’ll just have to take your chances.
