REVIEW: 3 NEW Disney World Eats Have Left Us… Confused?

Have you ever tried to get into Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto at Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and found that you were in for a really long wait? The bar is popular for a reason.

Three new menu items!

However, did you know you can get the same food and drinks at Trader Sam’s Tiki Terrace, which is the outdoor portion of Trader Sam’s? Well, some new food arrived at Trader Sam’s, so we headed to the Tiki iTerrace to try it out (and we didn’t have to wait long).

So one of the new appetizers you can now order at Trader Sam’s is the Shrimp and Plantain Roll for $18. This is a sushi roll with some unique ingredients and a nice crunch. The plantain on top adds a lovely sweetness to the savory shrimp, but other than that, the other flavors were bland, including the sauce on top, and we didn’t think they blended well.

However, we’ll give Disney an A+ for presentation. One downside of eating outside in Disney World, though, is that this sushi roll attracted bees.

Look at it!

Also new is the Spicy Honey Pork Wings for $15. Although we really didn’t think these were very spicy, this was still one of our favorite new things we tried. The sauce is both sweet and tangy, while the pork is nice and tender. There was also a good balance of fat on the meat.

Finally, we tried the Yuca Fries with Plant-Based Beef and Asian Slaw for $14. The seasoning on the fries was very light and offer just a tiny bit of kick and flavor. The yuca fries weren’t as crispy as we’d like regular fries, and they didn’t feel as “fresh” as we had expected. They’re also very starchy on the inside.

The plant-based beef didn’t really taste like beef, but just like the sweet brown sauce it was coated in. It was a little chewy and not really our thing. The Asian slaw was sweet. Overall, this was our least favorite of the new menu items.

So if you’re headed over to Trader Sam’s, you might want to give these new menu items some consideration. But if you get anything, we’d recommend the Spicy Honey Pork Wings.

We’ll be back with even more food reviews, so check back with AllEars again soon for more.
