Disney Files 9 NEW Permits for Tropical Americas Expansion at Animal Kingdom

Disney is building a new Tropical Americas–themed land in Animal Kingdom, which is already well under construction. Pueblo Esperanza, at the former site of DinoLand U.S.A., already has some new buildings and rides!

We weren’t expecting even more news to come out of the land, but Disney decided to surprise us. They just filed nine new permits for the area!

The nine new Notice of Commencement permits are all for electrical work across the land. Electrical work will be done on the future Indiana Jones, ‘Encanto,’ and carousel rides, as well as the former sites of  Restaurantosaurus, Chester & Hester’s Dinosaur Treasures, and the land’s entrance sign.

All nine permits note Pro Audio Video, Inc., as the contractor, an Orlando-based company known for its audio, video, lighting, and control systems, often working on complex entertainment installations in theme parks. They’ve done a wide variety of Disney projects, most recently The Walt Disney Studios, Test Track 3.0, and Beak and Barrel.

Last month, Disney Imagineering filed other Notice of Commencement permits to install interior set elements on the Encanto attraction. This work will likely include large scenic details, show sets, and other themed elements to transform the ride building into the Madrigals’ home.

The Encanto set installation is with Mecca Productions Inc, a full-service design, fabrication, and installation firm specializing in theme park and television sets and props. They’re a frequent collaborator with Disney, currently working on Pueblo Esperanza’s Indiana Jones ride, Big Thunder Mountain Railroad‘s refurbishment, and the rethemed Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster Starring The Muppets.

The unnamed Encanto ride will take you through the Madrigals’ house during the part of the movie where Antonio receives his gift, then accidentally turns their home into the rainforest! Based on concept art, it looks like the majority of the ride will be set in either the rainforest or the Madrigals’ home.
