Proof That You Need MULTIPLE Rope Drop Strategies in Disney World

If you’re rope dropping in Disney World, you need at LEAST three different plans, no matter what park you’re in.

We’ve seen far too many times that your number one ride to rope drop may be down due to a technical issue, and the last thing you want to do is scramble because you don’t have another plan in place. In fact, we saw it happen just yesterday, and WE were almost caught off guard yesterday when one of the most popular rides in Magic Kingdom chose to have a late start.

Magic Kingdom

TRON Lightcycle / Run hit a 75 minute wait at the START of the day, very likely due to the fact that Seven Dwarfs Mine Train was down for Early Entry and the first hour. The day was actually full of short ride closures, but they were numerous — Peter Pan’s Flight, Pirates of the Caribbean, the PeopleMover, The Many Adventures of Winnie The Pooh, and more were all down for 1-2 hours each.

Epcot

Test Track had the highest wait of 95 minutes towards the end of the day, which isn’t bad at all, considering it closed three times throughout the day. Fortunately, very few other rides acted up, and since Frozen Ever After soft opened, there was plenty going on to keep guests busy.

To our shock, Avatar Flight of Passage hit a 180 minute wait at 1 PM (after briefly being closed at 11 AM), and that’s the highest we’ve seen it in a WHILE! It’s not clear what caused such a high wait time, other than perhaps an issue still going on inside the ride that limited capacity, as it dropped to a 60 minute wait just one our after, at 2 PM.
