WHAT is Happening With Rope Drop in Disney World Right Now?

Summer storms have REALLY started to hit Disney World now, so when we say it’s important to have backup plans, we really mean it!

However, there’s something even more pressing we feel is absolutely necessary to mention after seeing yesterday’s wait times. Some Disney rides will have high wait times nearly all the time, and that’s to be expected, so if you want to ride, you’ll need to deal with them. BUT, if you see rides go up THIS HIGH, we’re begging you to just WAIT and get in line later — it could save you a lot of time.

Magic Kingdom

Those summer storms are officially in full effect, because yesterday afternoon in Magic Kingdom was ROUGH. Not only did outdoor rides close, but other indoor attractions also decided to go down at the same time. TRON Lightcycle / Run had the highest wait of 105 minutes twice throughout the day, but we’re more concerned with the fact that Seven Dwarfs Mine Train was closed for five hours, with only two of those certainly being due to weather. Other rides, such as The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad also had issues that didn’t deal with weather, so we suggest having multiple backup plans for this park right now.

Epcot

The day was looking pretty normal for EPCOT, all until the very end of the day when Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind hit a 175 minute wait! The ride didn’t even have closures throughout the day, and no other rides were down at the time of the peak, so we’re a little stumped. This ride is all indoors, so riding it at night isn’t any different than riding it during the day, other than the fact that the outdoor queue isn’t as hot with the sun overhead. This is another ride you may want to watch out for right now, especially around closing time.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

It was also a rough day in Animal Kingdom with the rain causing TWO rides in the park to close for a few hours. In a park with such few attractions, that’s pretty detrimental. Avatar Flight of Passage rose to a 160 minute wait because of it, though it thankfully dropped drastically in the last two hours of the day. We know many people think this ride is totally worth the long wait, and we don’t disagree, but it’s important to note that this ride DOES now often get below 100 minutes, so we recommend riding then, instead at its peaks.

Disney’s Hollywood Studios

Well, if you thought that was high, then rope dropping Slinky Dog Dash is NOT the move for you right now, and we’d go as far as to say that it’s not the move for most people, unless you’re willing to spend HOURS in one line. The ride hit a 180 minute wait RIGHT at rope drop, but then dropped pretty drastically for the entire rest of the day. We don’t recommend waiting in this hot line in the middle of the day, but if you notice a long line like this early on, it may be later to go back later in the evening.
