This Disney World Hurricane Cancellation Policy Is Officially a Game Changer

Unfortunately, if you are visiting Disney World between June and November, your trip could be impacted by a hurricane, and knowing Disney’s policies is essential.

A storm is coming!

According to the National Hurricane Center (NHC), the official hurricane season for the Atlantic basin is from June 1st to November 30th. Unfortunately, Florida is no stranger to hurricanes. So if you are visiting Disney World during this time, there are a few things you’ll want to know!

If a hurricane warning is issued within seven days of your arrival, you may reschedule or cancel your Disney hotel, tickets, packages, and most room-only reservations if you booked directly with Disney without any cancellation or change fees imposed by Disney. But did you know it also includes your place of residence?

Disney World has no shortage of storms

Disney World’s policy states, “If a hurricane warning is issued by the National Hurricane Center for the Orlando area—or for your place of residence—within 7 days of your scheduled arrival date, you may reschedule or cancel your Walt Disney Travel Company Disney Resort hotel packages and most room-only reservations (booked directly with Disney) without any cancellation or change fees imposed by Disney. Most room-only and vacation packages can be modified or cancelled online, including changes to travel dates.”

This means if you are traveling from North Carolina and there is a Hurricane Warning in place for your area, within 7 days of your trip, it falls under the cancellation policy. This is great to know in case you’re worried about traveling during the hurricane.

This full refund policy only applies to reservations fully booked through Disney. So, for all other bookings, airlines, rental cars, etc., you must contact those services. As well as anything booked through a third party or travel agency, you would have to research their specific policies.

If you reschedule, all payments for rooms, tickets, and dining plans are then applied to your new reservation. And it’s important to note that Disney states, “The policy does not apply to rooms or packages for youth groups, other groups, and special events. It also does not apply to meetings and conventions. Please call your event manager for assistance.”
