Rides will temporarily close in Disney World from time to time.
You’ll typically notice at least one or two rides close for a short period of time every day in the parks. However, it’s when multiple rides (like 14!!) shut down all at the same time that our ears start to perk up, and we start to wonder what might have been going on at that time. That’s exactly what happened yesterday, July 23rd!
We noticed that 14 rides across the four theme parks in Disney World all temporarily closed down at 6PM. ALL but two of these rides are outdoor rides that will typically close whenever there is lightning in the area.
Let’s be honest, 6PM in Orlando, Florida during July is prime rain time! It rains nearly every day around 5 and 6PM in Disney World in the summer. That means that if you plan to be in the parks in the early evening, be prepared for rain!
We recommend bringing ponchos, umbrellas, and shoes you don’t mind getting wet with you into the parks. Also, be prepared for MANY of the rides to shut down, especially if there is lightning. The rides will likely re-open once the lightning and rain have passed, but while they’re closed it may be a good time to find some food or enjoy an indoor show or ride.
