It’s been a BIG day in Disney World. Genie+ has gone away forever and Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass have replaced it.

Now, we’re testing out EVERYTHING we can about the new system, and we’ve learned how it works, the ins and outs of the system, and how it even works for park hopping. However, something else surprised us today: a strange virtual queue message!
So we grabbed a spot in the virtual queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind. When you get a spot in the virtual queue, you get assigned a boarding group. When it’s time for your group to get in line for the ride, you are notified, but you only have an hour window return time window to do so. Here’s what the message typically looks like:

On July 24th, though, that seemed to change for one of our reporters. We received a notification that it was time for our boarding group to get in line, but the message on the My Disney Experience app informed us that we could arrive at any time today after our group was called.

This is different from anything we’ve seen before. We’re not sure if it has anything to do with the other changes that have happened with Lightning Lane Multi Pass and Lightning Lane Single Pass or if this is just a one-off glitch. However, another reporter had a virtual queue for the same ride, and when the time to board arrived, it did have a “return by” time on it. So we’re not entirely sure what’s going on here.

We spoke to a Cast Member who believed that the only time that notification is sent is if something special has been done by guest relations or guest experiences. They also mentioned it could be a glitch related to the new system because this Cast Member had also never seen that before. You bet we’ll be keeping watch to see if this message pops up again in the future!

We’re running a number of experiments with the new Lightning Lane Multi Pass system to answer ALL of your questions. Don’t want to miss a thing? Be sure to sign up for our newsletter to catch all of the latest. You can also follow along on our social channels like Instagram and Facebook.
