We go to Disney World every day, and we keep track of ride wait times and ride closures.
But yesterday, August 25th, we saw a LOT of ride closures that literally had us scratching our heads and asking, “What is going on?” We don’t have an answer for that, but we can help you decide what to do when the same thing happens to you.
So, let’s take a look at some of the closures. Magic Kingdom was struggling at one point in the morning when THREE popular rides were closed: Space Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Jungle Cruise. Although Space Mountain and Jungle Cruise eventually reopened, Pirates of the Caribbean remained closed through most of the day. We’ve been seeing Pirates close a lot recently, and we really don’t know why.
Over at Hollywood Studios, Rise of the Resistance, which does close often throughout the day, was closed for MOST of the day — the ride was closed when the park opened and didn’t reopen until 6PM. Ouch.
So what should you do if you come across this situation? Well, there’s not a lot you CAN do but be flexible and ride other attractions. If you’ve purchased an Individual Lightning Lane for a ride like Rise of the Resistance that closes, you’ll get an “experience redemption” that will let you ride that attraction (or something else) later.
If the ride remains closed throughout the day, you qualify for a refund, but you’ll need to go to Guest Relations to ask for it.
