ALERT: Storms Shut Down 8 (!!!) Magic Kingdom Rides in Disney World

Sometimes, your Disney World day doesn’t go as planned.

This can especially be the case when there’s rain involved or storms in the area. While indoor Disney World attractions can stay open rain or shine, outdoor rides will close if there’s lightning in the area, in order to keep everyone safe. We saw firsthand yesterday just what a stormy day in Disney World could do for your plans — here’s why it’s important to have a plan B.

Below is a full look at the Disney World wait times on (a rainy) May 8th, 2025.

Magic Kingdom

Rain wreaked HAVOC on this park yesterday, and that, combined with regular sporadic ride closures throughout the day? Yeah, it wasn’t pretty — eight rides closed, some of them multiple times, and we don’t know WHAT happened to “it’s a small world,” but could someone check on it, please? TRON Lightcycle / Run had the highest wait time of 85 minutes, but Tiana’s Bayou Adventure wasn’t far behind with an 80-minute wait.

Epcot

Frozen Ever After had a super rough start to the day and was closed for the first three hours. Thankfully, that was the only ride closure in the park, but it caused both Frozen Ever After and Cosmic Rewind to tie at 105-minute waits.

Kali River Rapids and Expedition Everest also fell victim to storms in the area, and Flight of Passage soared to a 120-minute wait at 11 AM for no apparent reason. Just further proof that predicting Disney World wait times can sometimes be impossible!

After being down for the ENTIRE day with the exception of the last three hours, Slinky Dog Dash took the cake with a 110-minute wait. However, Rise of the Resistance and Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway also had unexpected closures throughout the day, which didn’t help wait times.
