It’s no secret that rides close at Disney World all the time. Technical issues happen. Weather closes rides. Rides occasionally need to close for maintenance and refurbishments.
Now, most ride closures due to technical issues and weather are pretty short, but sometimes we see a ride that’s just struggling throughout a day. That’s exactly what happened with a classic EPCOT ride yesterday.
Yesterday, Spaceship Earth was having a bad day. The ride closed at 2 P.M. and stayed closed until the park closed. That means if you didn’t get a chance to ride it earlier in the day, you didn’t get to ride it. In 2025, Spaceship Earth got a bit of a refurbishment, but it seems like it might be due for one again if this trend continues.
The ride was originally supposed to get a complete overhaul and upgrade during the EPCOT transformation, but Disney dropped plans for that (although we’re hoping the idea will be revisited soon). For now, though, you’re stuck with the same old Spaceship Earth as always…if it’s open.
For now, you might just want to get in line for the ride as soon as you get to EPCOT, just in case it’s closed later in the day. We don’t usually recommend this, since it’s the first thing people see in the park from the front entrance, but if it’s a must, it could be your only chance that day.
