Raise your hand if you’ve been impacted by a Disney World ride closure. We’ve all been there, right? Any time we hear about a Disney World ride closure, we feel a little sad knowing that there’s a large number of people who won’t be able to experience one of Disney’s attractions on their trip. But we also know that the changes are intended to make the rides better and keep them running smoothly. It’s a real Catch-22, huh?

We see a lot of closures and refurbishments at Disney’s older attractions, which are often the most iconic, such as Spaceship Earth. Located inside the park icon, we know lots of families may have missed out on the relaxing experience this ride offers during its recent closure. We were so pleasantly surprised when it soft-opened early on October 18th. Today, though, the ride is OFFICIALLY back open for all guests to enjoy!
Today, October 25th, was the date set for Spaceship Earth to reopen; it was just a bonus that the refurbishment was completed quicker than expected and quietly soft-opened early.

The attraction originally closed on August 25th and was therefore closed for just under two full months. Disney had not announced any major changes to this ride, so it was expected to be only routine maintenance. After taking a ride on the attraction on the day it soft-opened, we can confirm that there were no significant changes to the ride. Some of the animatronics appear to have been restored to a more fluid state, but that on-ride photo? Yeah, that’s still pretty glitchy (but that’s part of the fun of the attraction, right?).

When a ride soft opens like this one did, it’s important to know that Disney could change its mind at any time and close the ride again ahead of the official reopening date if more changes or tweaks are needed. We didn’t notice the ride close after its soft opening, but for future reference, if you see a ride in a soft opening, you may never know when it’ll actually be open during that period.
