SURPRISE! We love a surprise. Especially when we’re in EPCOT and really missing those Phoenicians (we have to thank them, after all!). Spaceship Earth just soft-opened following an extended refurbishment.

This attraction has been closed since August 25th and was set to reopen on October 25th.
During our visit to EPCOT on October 18th, we noticed Cast Members stationed at the entrance to Spaceship Earth. The shrubs that previously blocked the queue were gone, too. See those bushes? They DISAPPEARED! That’s a good sign when you’re a Disney reporter.

Well, lo and behold, we were able to hop in line and take a ride on Spaceship Earth! SCORE — we love when attractions open early. It’s such a fun surprise!

During the closure, we were not expecting any major changes to this attraction — just routine maintenance and refurbishment. Now that the ride is back up and running (at least in a soft-open capacity at this time), we can confirm that there were no significant changes to the ride. Some of the animatronics seemed to be restored to a more fluid state, but our on-ride attraction photo was…well, still a little glitchy.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated as we learn more. In the meantime, we’re always on the lookout for the latest Disney news, so stay tuned for more.
Oh, and if you’re looking for a travel agent to help with your vacation, we recommend our friends at Mouse Fan Travel. They’re experts in the field with over 20 years of vacation planning experience, and they can help take a bunch of the stress out of the entire booking process for you!

Really thought the Newsboy would no longer be facing the wall after this upgrade…….but I was wrong, he still is. Many years ago he was stationed closer to the guest vehicles coming by and facing the vehicles. Not sure why he was moved all the way back and facing the wall.
Is this intentional on Disney’s part? A ” look what we got away with moment” to make up for having to pay for something that used to be free. If Disney advertised this or promoted it, it would send the message to people who won’t or can’t pay for LL that Disney is catering to those that can afford LL at the expense of others.
Yay! Glad to hear it! We will be at wdw in mid November.Glad Spaceship Earth will be reopened. We won’t make the same mistake we made last time we were there.Namely to try and ride it on entering the park. Then the sign indicated a 30 minute wait, but , in fact, it was about 3x that when all was said and done. We will ride.on our way put rather than our way in
