​One Magic Kingdom ride had a BIG change this year!
Nope, I’m not talking about the newly-opened Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, which transformed from Splash Mountain — I’m talking about TRON Lightcycle / Run! The coaster opened in 2023 with a virtual queue, but this year, it changed to a standby line. And that change has had a very interesting effect on wait times.
On Thursday, December 19th, TRON Lightcycle / Run seemed to have a BIZARRE day in Magic Kingdom. It started out the day with an unexpected closure, and it didn’t open until well into the afternoon! That’s not so great on a day when the park is only open until 6PM.
Once the ride opened, it had a 25-minute wait for a little while, but that number quickly jumped to 2 hours once people made their way across the park. Even after Magic Kingdom closed for the day and swapped over to Mickey’s Very Merry Christmas Party, the ride maintained a fairly high wait time for the rest of the evening (especially when compared to other ride wait times during the party).
TRON has been known to have intermittent downtime for technical difficulties, so here’s what you need to know if you plan to ride it during your trip. First, we recommend trying to get on the coaster early in the day — if you save it until the end of the day, it might be unexpectedly closed. Also, purchasing a Lightning Lane Single Pass to ride may be a good option, because if the ride is down during your return window, you’ll likely be given an experience redemption pass to come another time that day.
Ultimately, this ride — like many new ones in Disney World — requires some patience and a bit of planning to tackle. So if it’s a must-do for you, you’ll want to strategize ahead of time.

Tron was worth the wait in line. I absolutely hated virtual que. It’s a way to keep paying customers from riding what they paid for. Sounds totally made up but it is not. Went to get on guardians of the galaxy and the said scan your ticket. They then told me the virtual que was full for the day. I did go to customer satisfaction and was given last virtual que during fireworks. So disney if your listening down with your stupid virtual que.
