Wow. Magic Kingdom Is Shockingly EMPTY Right Now

This summer in Disney World has been…interesting, to say the least. Wait times haven’t been what we were expecting, and while we’re not complaining about the lower crowds, it is puzzling.

Things got even more confusing when we really took a look at yesterday’s wait times. Sure, the Fourth of July weekend has ended, so many families may have been heading home today, but it’s also possible a lot of people made the weekend the START of their vacation. So, imagine our shock when we saw that arguably the most popular Disney World park didn’t have ONE wait time over AN HOUR yesterday.

Let’s take a look at wait times from Sunday, July 5th.

Magic Kingdom

Yesterday was a fantastic day to be in Magic Kingdom, because it’s truly been a LONG time since we’ve seen wait times so consistently low across the board. Peter Pan’s Flight, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, and TRON Lightcycle / Run all tied at 50 minute waits — yes, that means NO wait time in the park was over an hour for the entire day! That’s an incredible feat, especially for right after Fourth of July weekend.

Epcot

Meanwhile, it seems a lot of the crowds were in EPCOT, because wait times were significantly higher. Test Track took the cake with a 95 minute wait after being closed for two hours early in the day. The ride did close for two MORE hours later in the day, totaling four hours, which is far from ideal, but with how finicky this ride is, we’ve come to expect it.

Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Avatar Flight of Passage hit a 75 minute wait right at noon, but otherwise mostly stayed VERY low throughout the day. This park is the one most affected by summer storms, considering there are so few rides to begin with, and it shuts down two of them, but instead of increasing wait times, it does seem to be keeping people away from this park as a whole. The last hour of the park day, Avatar Flight of Passage was only at a 10 MINUTE wait! It’s possible you could visit this park in its final two hours of operation on any given day and do everything you wanted.

While Slinky Dog Dash did hit a 75 minute wait, most wait times around the park stayed well below an hour, which is NOT what we expected from this park. We’re really starting to wonder about these summer crowds, especially seeing the TWO attractions in this park that are new/have new elements still have such low waits. Summer really may be the best time to head to the parks for low waits, though the heat is brutal.
