Disney World will often schedule attraction and facility closures for routine check-ups and major maintenance.
It’s good to stay in the know when planning your vacation to Disney World! We’re giving you a brief refurbishment update on all the attractions scheduled to remain closed between January 18th through January 24th, 2021.
Animal Kingdom Refurbishments
Kali River Rapids
It’s been fairly chilly in Florida lately! It’s not too cold where we have to wear parkas, but it’s not exactly swimsuit weather either! Disney World likes to advantage of the lowered temperatures and work on water rides during the cooler seasons. Kali River Rapids has been closed temporarily and is undergoing a scheduled refurb.
The raft ride is set to reopen on April 2nd, 2021.

Magic Kingdom Refurbishments
Walt Disney World Railroad
The famous train in the Magic Kingdom has temporarily halted operations. The construction for TRON Lightcycle Run is currently interrupting the train’s pathway through Tomorrowland. In fact, the train hasn’t been running for a couple of years due to the construction zone!
There hasn’t been any word on when the train will start making more grand circle tours. It could be around the same time the roller coaster finishes up. However, the construction has been delayed and it most likely won’t open until 2022. We’ll continue to update you on TRON and the train!

Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat
A lot has happened to the Rivers of America in the last few months! The river has been completely drained and Cast Members have been hard at work refurbishing the area. We’ve seen work done on the rails that guide the riverboat and the building located on Tom Sawyer Island.
The riverbed is still drained and the construction causes Tom Sawyer Island and Liberty Square Riverboat to remain closed. The schedule states that both attractions will be closed through February 28th, 2021.

Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover
The PeopleMover is loved by many old-school Disney World fans. It was scheduled to open way back in July and was down for several days after Magic Kingdom’s reopening. Eventually, the ride was added to the refurbishment calendar and the refurb date was extended twice after that.
The date was pushed back yet again to January 30th, 2021. We do have some good news! We spotted the PeopleMover being tested this week. We’re crossing our fingers that it won’t get extended again!

Disney World Resort Refurbishments
Three Disney World resorts are also undergoing major refurbishments this year. Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort is receiving a big overhaul to the entryway with updates on the lobby and monorail station. The guest rooms will also receive a Moana-inspired room update. The project is currently underway and will continue to this summer.
Disney’s Contemporary Resort will also experience updates to its guest rooms. The construction is set to begin in April 2021 and continue to September 2021.
And finally, Disney’s Saratoga Springs Resort and Spa will receive a waterslide refurb at the Paddock Pool! The waterslide is closing this winter and the pool will remain open during construction.
That’s all for now! We’ll be back with more refurbishment updates in the future!

More than just the pool slide at the Paddock is being refurbished at Saratoga Springs. The entire resort has been going thru a major refurbishment for a year now. Paddock is just finishing up and have seen Grand Stand was just started. No word as to when all the work is supposed to be finished. I hope they get the Train going before the 50th and am looking forward to riding the People Mover in April.
I am so “old school” that I would actually delay a visit just because the Wedway people mover and the Walt Disney world railway are both down!
I had the same thought.
We are planning to return when most of the refurbishments are done and rides are reopened. Too much confusion and mess right now.
