Many people say that a rainy day in Disney World is better than a sunny day elsewhere. We agree, to an extent, but we will argue that it depends on the strength of the rainstorm.
It also depends on which park you’re in. If you’re in EPCOT or Disney’s Hollywood Studios, where lots of attractions are indoors and won’t be affected by the storms, you’re likely better off. However, when it comes to Animal Kingdom, there are major pros AND cons to being in the park during a long-lasting shower.
Let’s take a look at wait times from Friday, June 12th!
Magic Kingdom
The storms and rain in the area couldn’t stop TRON Lightcycle / Run from having the highest wait time of 75 minutes at the end of the day, but it certainly did affect other rides, causing eight rides to close towards the end of the park day. While ride closures before the storm wasn’t too intense, Tiana’s Bayou Adventure was closed for the first two hours of the park day — it usually gives us trouble though, so we weren’t super surprised.

Test Track hit a 105 minute wait right in the middle of the day, which is unusual, considering riding the attraction when it’s blazing hot outside isn’t often the most pleasant. Though it likely didn’t help that the ride was closed for the first two hours of the day, AND closed for the last four. It’s definitely struggling a bit, so we’re keeping our eye on it.

Avatar Flight of Passage hit an 80 minute wait towards the end of the day when rain came in and closed down other attractions, but as that rain continued, it was clear that people just started to leave the park instead of waiting around. By the end of the day, while the storm was still causing issues for other rides, Flight of Passage was only at 25 minutes! We’ll say it with our whole chests — right now, this is the WORST park to be in when it rains (unless you want to ride Kilimanjaro Safaris over and over, which isn’t a bad plan).

Hi Heather! We mention Kilimanjaro Safaris being a good plan to ride over and over in the rain. That’s the one we always think is better to ride in the rain. The cooler, damp weather makes the animals much more active, and the rain causes many park guests to leave the area, resulting in significantly shorter wait times.
